Love this gym a few mins walk from either Tower or London Bridges. I taught classes here prior to the pandemic and was delighted to return. The mat is HUGE and the members and staff are friendly. Both gyms have a range of equipment that keeps workouts fun and interesting. I've even started wrestling which I wasn't sure about and now love it and there's an MMA class to suit anyone, so much versatility. Come and say 'hi' to us and explore
The judo is pretty good, about 20 adults on the mat on a Tuesday and Saturday, less on a Thursday, usually a mix of Dan and kyu grades and a few novices, more older players than 18-25, on the chilled out end of judo clubs, very not 'sensei etc'... some very good players, ex Bulgarian national, 4-5 coaches, very welcoming, most go for coffee in Costa after on Sat. They do a little tour each year too. Last one to Bulgaria, before that Frankfurt
I've been using Tokei gym for about 3 months now. This isn't a chain gym and the low price reflects this. This is a gym where people who want to get fit and meet their goals go. I have to say the staff and management here are very friendly, they really make an effort to ensure all the kit is always working unlike the chains that just stick a sticker on it, and they are approachable when things do go wrong. There are classes to for lunch time and weekends, and I would say that if you are serious about your health then this is the place. I use a chain gym at the weekend when out of London and it's cold and impersonal, Tokei is the exact opposite. Photo was taken on a weekday lunchtime, so there's plenty of space for those lunchtime workouts.
The worst gym for beginners in Muay Thai. Save your money and go do some 1-2-1’s somewhere else. The whole layout of the classes are terrible. The venue itself is really good , but the classes are terrible. Coach is a nice guy , but yet again the layout of these lessons are so so bad.
A nice, quiet little gym with lovely staff and a good range of 'get the job done' equipment. The real USP is the range of martial arts available, the quality of the instruction, and the low price point. With four BJJ classes a week, and four Judo classes a week including those for absolute beginners, plus wrestling, this is possibly the cheapest place in London to learn grappling.
I arrived at this gym some months ago, and to be honest I was nervous about exploring martial arts. I'd never thrown a proper punch in my life and I had a strange mix of emotions, but I really wanted to try martial arts, because everybody said it could be life-changing. A few months later, and I can say that joining this gym has been the best thing I've done for my mental health and body health. I would compare the experience here to when you first discover surfing - it 100% changes your life, and only for the better! The Tuesday and Thursday Muaythai class is perfect for a beginner who wants to start from the beginning like I did. Winston, the trainer, could not be better - straight away he recognises what you need as a beginner he gives you encouragement, shows you the correct technique, gives guidance every time you try a new thing, and he takes the time to bring you up, level by level, class by class, whilst he also helps you to break through any mental barriers in your head. After 2 weeks you'll be glowing, cos Winston pushes you to your limit, but he's always on your side, and he gets the BEST out of you. He was a multiple champion in the sport of Muaythai so it makes sense that he is a top-level trainer! Attending his muaythai classes really is a positive transformative experience that I would wish for everyone to experience. Additionally, the muaythai classes have a mix of guys and girls, which is great, because everyone has healthy respect for each other in a way that nobody gets hurt, but we all bring the best out of each other. Besides the Muaythai class, the boxing class on Wednesday is fantastic also you can lear great techniques which pair perfectly with muaythai. Once you've been here for a few weeks you realise that this is an actual community - you can chat to anybody about the different martial arts they do, and nobody seems to carry an 'ego', which is refreshing. So it really feels like a great place to learn and experience transformation. I can't recommend it enough. Lastly, thank you to everyone who works at Tokei; management, trainers and all the friendly day staff, for your hard work and cheerful attitudes - please know it is very very appreciated!
When I moved to London, I asked around for the friendliest, most welcoming judo club. I heard the word "Tokei" from multiple sources, independent of each other. Tokei has now become like a second home to me. I have trained, learnt, taught, travelled, competed and attended social events with my friends at Tokei over the years and created memories. I wholeheartedly recommend this club to anyone looking to start something new.
Fantastic club with a range of martial arts: BJJ Gi and No-Gi, Boxing, Judo, Wrestling and Muay Thai. Teaching is top notch and extremely welcoming - always a good mix of experienced and beginners in every class to suit all skill levels. Also has a fully equipped gym with weights and a range of cardio machines for people looking to workout. Would highly recommend the BJJ classes!
A brilliant hidden gem of a facility with fully equipped gym and a huge martial arts offering. I've been training judo at Tokei for a few months now and have nothing but great things to report - well structured, high level classes led by very experienced instructors who put an emphasis on solid technique and fun learning within a safe training environment. Love it there!
Brilliant little hidden gym. Excellent boxing class with Jack on Wednesday's. He caters to all levels focusing on technique as well as fitness.
