Prior to eating at The Swan Inn on Saturday 8th June 2013 I had only my daughters word that it was a good place to eat. I had reserved a table for myself, four members of my family and a friend. From the moment I entered I was immediately impressed by the attention given by not only the managerial staff but the staff in general. We were well looked after from the moment we walked in, right through the meal to our departure. I have no hesitation in recommending this lovely warm welcoming restaurant to anyone. it is definitely worth a visit. Thank you The Swan Inn for a truly wonderful meal and experience.

The Swan House, in the middle of Beccles, is a rather indefinable place: it is not a pub but you can get a great pint and enjoy an open log fireside, it could be bar but it is also clearly a restaurant, even if it was in France it would not be a bistro as the ambiance and the food on offer is way beyond that epithet. Then these days, newly developed, there is now accommodation available too, though Swan House is not really a hotel however, there is no reception desk as such and no resident's lounge - all hospitality takes-place in the restaurant and bar. It is way past being a 'bed-and-breakfast' if only because that would suggest the embarrassment of confronting your host and being required to act in a friendly social manner whilst suffering kitted toilet-roll covers and wipe-down floral wallpaper. I suppose Swan House really is an Inn in the true sense of the old word - but there is an image of inns being rather Hogarthian - all types a lodging and pot-luck to sup' upon - and this modern incantation of what actually was historically once a coaching inn is happily far removed from such hardships! I have lunched and dined at the Swan House many times, over many years, when travelling in the Broads area around Suffolk and Norfolk, with family, friends and most often with clients for business lunches. The food is always of a very high standard, imaginative but memorable and agreeable. The range of wines and beers ample. This is a place that goes 'the extra mile' and it is worth making the effort to pay a visit if you are anywhere near the local. I have also recently booked a couple of guest rooms, when visiting the area with an export client, and we had a really great stay. The rooms are superbly presented and offer exceptional value for the quality and consideration that has clearly gone into their appointment. My client is a rather fastidious chap and does not suffer anything but the right job done well. Now he refers to his stay at Swan House as the 'benchmark' by which any other accommodation and hospitality I arrange is measured - I have found a rod for my own back!
