Story

The Stag first opened its’ doors in 1874. Mr George Wadley was the Stag’s first landlord & ran the public house for 17 years. G Wadley’s Upstairs is an intimate, 40 seat restaurant and roof terrace, serving classic dishes and old fashioned British starters and puddings.

Winston Churchill was born in the same year the Stag was opened in 1874. Sir Winston Leonard Spencer was not only an inspirational leader, he also loved his favourite tipples. In fact his love of After, Between & Before dinner drinking made him a true connoisseur. We stock his favourite Champagne, Cigar, Cognac & Whisky. His love of these particular brands came from extensive research & he made sure all British embassies around the globe were stocked up, pending his potential visit. He was very particular about his favourites & tested them all to great length. For example, he was known to go through 9 bottles of Pol Roger on a steady Saturday. He lived to a happy 90.

Had a really fantastic Sunday Roast, big portion, really tender and juicy beef. Quite satisfied about it so I ordered a sticky toffee pudding to follow up, despite everyone else being full. However the pudding was stale, and tasted like the fridge. It was off-putting, but not nearly as much as the attitude I received from one of the staff. I told him the pudding was stale, and it really should not be served like that, all I got was a shrug and 'That's unfortunate'. The food was really not cheap for a pub, so I would really expect to be treated with a little more enthusiasm. The other staff were top notch though to be fair
I haven’t had Sunday roast for ages, I really enjoyed the 28 day dry aged roast Aberdeenshire beef rump, so tender and yummy. Also, the root vegetables are nice as well. The service is fast and friendly, I didn’t wait for long to get my food and drink. This pub seems popular in this area, there are many families having their Sunday lunch here. I took away one star becoz it’s a bit pricey for a Sunday roast, though the portion is big for me. Also, I’m surprised to find that they charge for service fee in my bill, never been charged service in a pub before…
Really nice gastropub with a great outside area and friendly staff. Ordered the vegan burger with regular cheese, and it was delicious. Didn't have any cocktails there but they looked amazing as they came out.
Popped in for a couple of beers on Saturday and was impressed by the beer menu!! Loads of options whatever kind of beer you like.. Service was very good and it was nice to see loads of dogs knocking around and the pub being busy.. Looked to have a large outside area at the back and I’ll deffo be back in the future to try the food at some point.. as the menu looked like it had some pretty tasty stuff on… worth a look if you are in the area for sure!
Great choice of beer and nice atmosphere. Pushy food service, declined a desert from a waiting staff post meal and was immediately told that table i just ate at is reserved for someone in 2 hrs. :
Great place to have a drink with friends. There are also excellent food on the menu.
I’m so lucky to have this wonderful pub on my doorstep. Great drinks & food. The best pub garden in north west London and fab staff. Such a welcoming atmosphere !! Completely dog friendly and lots of local characters. Please support local pubs during these difficult times for the hospitality industry. They are the hub of the community!
Outstanding food, customer service, and setting. It’s hard to find good American style wings but this place nails it. Good blue cheese base with hot sauce. Definitely try the spinach & artichoke dip - it’s a different take and one of the better ones I’ve had.
Really cosy atmosphere, we had a really good evening. My friends are very demanding with regards to food and they were impressed with the outstanding quality of the steak pie. My cheese burger was simply amazing, all fresh ingredients. All the Covid protocol is followed accordingly by staff and clients. I felt safe. I'll definitely come back. Update 6/2021. We went back with the same group of friends for dinner in the outdoor area. The waiters pay really good attention to detail and are doing and excellent job. They did so well we decided to give an additional tip exceeding the 12.50% suggested on the bill. We really appreciated the food was brought at the same time. The quality is good, from pizzas to fish and chips, everything is excellent. Pies are available only in winter. American Express is not accepted
Was there on Sunday due to friends suggestions. Had buffalo chicken wings it was great blue cheese built in the sauce no dipping required. They have a garden and completely covered during the winter with heater. Would go again.
