Story

Founded in 2002, we are proud to be an independently owned and run business.

Headed up by Katherine Lockwood and her team of talented bakers and baristas, we love being in the centre of a wonderful neighbourhood.

We know there’s nothing quite like a freshly baked loaf, that’s why
we make all our breads and baked goods by hand, from scratch
each day in our bakery in the heart of Stoke Newington Church Street.

We also know delicious bread takes time, so we slow down the process.
letting our dough mature overnight. allowing a fuller flavour
& superior texture to develop.

You won’t find any nasties in our breads, just simple ingredients handled with care and attention.

Love getting my weekly egg cress bacon roll and coffee from here as my weekly breakfast treat, but service in general could be friendlier. The guy who served me this morning didn't utter a single word back and just handed me my roll. There have also been a few instances where my coffee order had been forgotten and I had to chase it up.Food: 5/5

Amazing variety and flavours offered at this  bakery. There's a reason it's busy. Amazing 'treat yourself' establishment. Bought a beetroot and seed sourdough which was divine. Allowed my little pooch in too which was super helpful!Food: 5/5

I cannot stress enough just how good the egg bacon and cress rolls are. Genuinely my favourite sandwich ever, I'm blown away every time I have one. If I did an Off Menu, this would be on it.Food: 5/5

Such a lovely bakery to stumble across on. It’s definitely a local feel and has very limited number of seating. The cakes are very homely like and delicious! Me and my partner have had the bundt cakes & the egg mayo bacon bap! Amazing! Please visit if you come to Stoke Newington!

I asked at one of the charity shops further up the street where did a good hot chocolate. And by ‘good’, I meant one which wasn’t too sweet and overloaded with marshmallows, cream etc although I fully appreciate those types of hot choc definitely have their place. They recommended the Spence Bakery and I must admit I was a little dubious - it didn’t seem like the kind of place which would do a decent hot chocolate. But I trusted her and in I went. They use proper chocolate and it was indeed very good; not too sweet and made well.  I also picked up a marmite and cheese swirl for my boys which one of them loved and the other hated. It was marmite after all…   Pleasantly surprised by the decent hot chocolate there and they had a solid range of plant based milks too so will be back!

Asked for to pay additional toppings on a salmon a cream cheese bagel. All they could serve was an apology. Fully operational kitchen 10 feet from the register.Food: 5/5

Very delicious pastries!! I enjoyed every bite of my brioche! Latte was good too. I really recommend this bakery if you go to London.Food: 5/5

Good loaf of bread at reasonable price £2.50 and very moist yummy almond raspberry cake at £2.20. Well done guys Food: 5/5

Poor cinnamon bun - dry and small. Also upset as I politely asked for a particular one at the front and was given one behind the staff, not on display!
