The Spence Bakery

About

Bringing carbs to N16 since 2002. We are an independent bakery in Stoke Newington.

Story

Founded in 2002, we are proud to be an independently owned and run business.

Headed up by Katherine Lockwood and her team of talented bakers and baristas, we love being in the centre of a wonderful neighbourhood.

We know there’s nothing quite like a freshly baked loaf, that’s why
we make all our breads and baked goods by hand, from scratch
each day in our bakery in the heart of Stoke Newington Church Street.

We also know delicious bread takes time, so we slow down the process.
letting our dough mature overnight. allowing a fuller flavour
& superior texture to develop.

You won’t find any nasties in our breads, just simple ingredients handled with care and attention.

A proper loaf from a proper bakery.

I only tried this bakery last Sunday. The rye bread and bagels were really good! I think is one of the few places left in Stoky that is reasonably priced. The best thing I got from them was the cheese scones, it was delicious and I will definitely come back to get more!
Ahh their baking is amazing.. highly reccomend.
I walk specifically to Stoke Newington to come to this bakery. Prices are very reasonable with very talented bakers. A roll of your choice and something sweet comes to around £5 which is an absolute bargain.
A lovely little bakery and very close by. They do make good bread and have some lovely food in there. Favs are the bacon and egg bagels. They are over priced at times depending on what your after but sometimes it is worth it. Due to covid they do have massive lines outside for this.
The bread we bought was very dry. overrated, we felt... to be honest. note : No photo allowed in this bakery
Queued to get some pastries and coffee: service was not very friendly and got visibly irritated when I added an additional item to the order. Products are all right, service is not worth the wait. Sticking to Dusty Knuckle next time!
Every area needs a good bakery, love this place, good coffee too
Had a very nice coffee and pain au raisin here, had a very long queue but worth the wait.
Really good bread and pastries. Friendly service
