The Smugglers Inn

About

A Great Family Pub/Resturant

Story

The Smugglers Inn is one of the only restaurants in the area that provide a full lunch and evening menu alongside our famous 'Farmers Feast Carvery' every day of the week. Situated in the beautiful town of Dawlish in Devon, you can expect to be surrounded by stunning panoramic views of the ocean and the surrounding countryside. A view that is not to be missed.

We are also home to some of the best Real Ales and cider on the market including: Dartmoor Legend, Teignworthy Reel and our guest pump which changes on a regular basis. We also have a full wine list and a fantastic variety of soft drinks.

There is something for everyone.

This is our second visit . I went for chicken and bacon Caesar salad and it was very yummy . There was lots of it. The Caesar sauce was plentiful and tasty. The chef had forgotten to put garlic croutons on it and the waitress put it right straight away. My husband had the hake again as he enjoyed it so much last time. We sat on the veranda with the dog in the sunshine. Perfect all round
Had a fantastic breakfast at the smugglers. The food was superb, the staff were friendly, and the views were amazing. We sat in the sun on the terrace and watched a couple of birds of prey catching thermals. A beautiful start to the day. Highly recommend.Food: 5/5
We always come here for a Sunday roast when we are in Devon. We have never had a bad meal!! This time needs shouting about though… We bought Grandparents here for the first time and they literally couldn’t get enough!! ..Rosties and meat were literally cooked to perfection. Staff were friendly and attentive. Prices and portions were great as they have different sized plate for different sized people. Recommended!!
ordered harvest carvery and a signature 6 oz burger and it taste great you can watch the sheep moving and hear them while you having your meal the scenery looks nice as well, got good airFood: 5/5
We went for dinner but the service was bad. The waitress taking our order had to repeat the order about 5 times because she kept not writing it down properly. Just write it down as ordered..?? One of the meals came out incorrect and another had a side missing that never got delivered after mentioning to the waitress. I had ordered a steak and had to wait for about 5 minutes for a steak knife while my food was on the table getting cold. We had ordered additional drinks which were sat at the bar until after we had finished our meals while the staff were busy packing up their take-home boxes of the carvery. The quality of the food was okay. My steak was good. One person had ordered the pork belly was absolutely drowned in gravy to the point it had buried the mashed potato it was served with. The carvery had cauliflower cheese that was undercooked and frankly tasted weird to the point that all three that had some did not eat it. At least the dessert was good. Overall it was incredibly disappointing.
Busy lively and on main road between Dawlish and Teignmouth....had carvery..even small was big.... only thing I didn't like was the ginger beer...it was Luscombe make which I've had before in lemon or elderflower ....the ginger didn't taste of ginger, was more flowery and lemony. Staff were friendly though and good serviceFood: 5/5
We have been here twice in the last few months and thoroughly enjoyed our carvery both times. We enjoy our sea wall walk from Teignmouth with our dog and find this place super dog friendly. The meat has been excellent quality and there is a good variety of delicious vegetables. The staff are friendly and the chef behind the carvery is a really lovely chap. He even came and gave us a free dog pot of little bits of meat for our dog to take away.
Let me tell you, if you're planning on hitting up this joint for Sunday brunch, you best make a reservation. We got there and it was booked up solid until 7pm! Luckily, they had a terrace with some electric heaters that kept us toasty on the chilly day. Now, when it comes to the food, we went for the Sunday Carvery - their speciality. You get a choice of three meats - beef, turkey, and pig - and a nice selection of veggies to load up your plate. The service was top-notch, too. The folks working there were so kind and helpful. All in all, a great spot for a Sunday feed.
The Smugglers used to have a great carvery which was one of the best in the area unfortunately a new owner has taken over and it's possibly one of the worst now. It's obvious that the new owner has cut costs massively yet hasn't cut the prices and killed it's reputation in the process. We used to go regularly but shan't be visiting again.
Staying local for a few days so booked for a carvery. Arrived and was told its waitress service and showed us to our table. Our young server had no idea what larger was available so we chose to order drinks at the bar. Took a while to grab someone's attention to order our food. Plate sizes where hardly any difference for XL and an adults. The kids plate was smaller. The meat portions where very generous!! I thought the veg and spuds where lovely. Beef was a bit chewy. Never seen fried stuffing balls before but they where nice too. Price is on the higher side but we didn't have any complaints really. Was a nice meal. Would probably visit again.
