One of the only places I'm aware of that plays good music. Can get fairly crowded here though, particularly on student orientated nights. But if meeting new people is your thing, it's perfect for that

Since the place has had a new refurbishment it is quite swanky, there's a couple of bars and even when busy it's fairly quick to get served. They play different types of music and don't close until 4am.

During a visit to Silk Road on Sat 07 Sep 13 I had the unpleasent experience from one of the muscle bound pill popping bouncers. Whilst out in the garden / smoking area for most of the evening I decided to use the bathroom. On my return a very aggressive bouncer informed me that the outside area was closed (but not the bar). I told him that I needed to get my drink and jacket, as expected he put his arm out and told me in a tough guy way to go away. After a bit of a protest and older guy stepped in and informed him to let me get my stuff, and told the idiot that he would never work there again. The older guy turned out to be the owner. If you do enter this bar BEWARE of the idiots who claim to be security, they have a very aggressive attitude and I have no doubt would chuck you out into the road just for kicks. BE CAREFUL. I am not a 20 year old idiot who was very drunk and being a pain, but a 47 year old person who was with a friend of the same age.
