An evening meal with friends and all our expectations met once again. We booked a table for 4 inside. They have very nice outdoor areas, but the weather wasn’t suitable. I had a superb braised lamb & mint pie. Served with mash and my partner kindly donated her chips, which were also superb. Two pints of Wainwright made it a perfect combination. There was an optional 7.5% service charge added to the bill. I can only hope it is given to the staff and still feel it’s a bad practice that restauranteurs should stop. But it is a practice that is spreading like wildfire. Any politician suggesting a better alternative will get my ear. We split the bill and paid just over £30 each. We will return.
Have recently moved to the area and have heard a couple of people recommending this place. And online reviews looked good. We decided to give it a try for lunch on a Tuesday as they do a third off the price of main meals.nLarge car park in front of the building but only 2 designated disabled spaces. You they need to cross the road, it’s fairly narrow and quiet, to get to the entrance. However, there was a ramp with rails either side of the front entrance allowing access for those with disabilities or in a wheelchair.nFor a Tuesday lunch time they seemed quite busy. Probably others taking advantage of the special offer available. Not the most extensive menu but a few dishes that I’ve not seen on other menus. I opted for the Korean glazed pork chop. My fellow diner went for the Lancashire cheese and onion pie. Food took a while to arrive. Hopefully a sign everything was being freshly cooked. Although the chop looked a good size I wasn’t over impressed with the quantity of the rest of the food on my plate. Although I enjoyed the chop, it was moist and tasty, I found the sauce it came with to be a little overpowering and very salty.nMy fellow diner also wasn’t over impressed with the quantity of food on his plate either and said he had enjoyed tastier pies.nI decided to go for a dessert as I was far from full. I thought they were a little pricy but opted for the Snickers cheesecake at £8.70. Again not the biggest of portions and, although nothing wrong with it, it didn’t leave any lasting impression.nCoffees looked pricey with a Cappuccino costing £4.25. We decided not to bother and ask for the bill. The bill arrived in seconds. Don’t think I have ever had one arrive so quickly. As our server put the bill down we were informed there was a service charge of 7.5% added to the bill. We didn’t have to pay if we didn’t want. This meant my dessert actually cost over £9.35 and a coffee would have been over £4.55.nAnother server came over to ask if everything was ok with the bill. I pointed out that I wasn’t happy that the menu made no mention of any additional charge for service but it was only at the end of the meal that we were told. We generally do leave a tip when we go out so have no issues with paying a gratuity but customers should be made aware before ordering that there is a service charge. The server did say it could be taken off the bill but we usually leave a bigger tip than 7.5% anyway. Our issue with it was diners should be told at the start of the meal or it should be prominent on the menu. To compound matters when I checked later the 7.5% had been added to the total cost of the bill before the third off had been deducted from our mains. I thought that was a little deceitful.nIn summary I have to say we were disappointed with our visit. We expected a better experience based on what he had heard and read. If it hadn’t been for the third off the mains courses then we felt it would have been too expensive for the quantity and quality of the food we had.
Great country bar and restaurant. Staff are lovely and very helpful, especially with kids. The meals were amazing. Definitely recommended.

Amazing food, friendly efficient service, lovely atmosphere and good drinks offers on a Friday too!nWe shared some whitebait to start, that was gorgeous and a big portion! I had the beef wellington, which was to die for, and the smoked haddock which was also delicious. There was an offer on house wine £18 a bottle which was very nice and 2 for £16 gin balloons.nThe staff were very friendly and attentive.nHighly recommend!
