Great food, but the service is what really stood out to us. We enjoyed a nice meal in the restaurant and were luckily able to catch the second half of the England USA match last week.
Firstly the good things.... Food and service were first rate and at very reasonable prices. The person behind the bar couldn't have been more friendly! Only took 20 minutes for the food to arrive. The environment of the pub was very pleasant and also covid safe. What could be improved....? Well from today's experience, nothing really! Thank you for a lovely lunch.
Had a great experience during our first visit. It's quite a big pun, with outside seating and beer garden in addition to a large indoor are. The staff were friendly and efficient. The food was good value and tasted great. Whilst there was no kids menu, there were a number of options available for smaller versions of adult dishes. Would definitely return.
Dropped by whilst working in Cheltenham for a couple of very nice burgers and homemade chips. Veggie burger was tasty and the steak was great. Lovely place would highly recommend.
Blown away by the fabulous food and amazing service. This is a superb independent pub and restaurant situated opposite a beautiful church. My wife suffers from coeliac disease and we found this little gem as they have a gluten free GF menu. The first night we had rump steak, which was honestly the best most tender rump steak I have ever had. It was so good we went back the following night. But on the second night we were tempted by the Sunday roast my wife had roast beef and I had roast lamb. The roasts came with GF gravy, GF cauliflower cheese, GF roast potatoes and a selection of GF veggies. I had a Yorkshire pudding too Not GF but delicious I should add the guys and girls that work here are super friendly and gave us fantastic service. You won't be disappointed with a visit here.
Decided to pop in on a whim this evening and so glad we did. The food was absolutely delicious. Two steaks, both cooked to absolute perfection! The staff were super friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be back again.
Great meal and hospitality at the Royal. We have lived in Charlton Kings for 16yr and visited local pubs on lots of different occasions. This is a cracking place with great staff who really care about giving a great customer experience. Food and drink today were fantastic with staff knowing the menu food+drink inside out. Thanks to managers who act on feedback in the right way. Great place- strongly recommend!
Reasonable/good food, slightly more expensive than I would have liked/expected, but I guess everyone including businesses are struggling with costs/prices. The crowd/atmosphere was lovely. I'd definitely come back. Nice local gastro pub for the local community.
Awesome pup. I had a great evening meal here. The food was top notch and they had a great selection of beers. The staff were super too. If you’re in the area I highly recommend.
Disgusting Customer Treatment Hi I visited the Royal Pub recently to meet up with friends at around 1:30pm. One of our party Paul had already arrived at around 1 PM and was sat at a cosy table by the bar. I myself came in with my friend Steve at around 1:30pm and we quickly ordered an ale from the bar and joined our friend Paul. Just before 2 pm as we were deciding what to choose for our second drink a staff member ,who turned out to be the pub manager came over to the table . She explained to us that the table was reserved for 2:15pm and firmly placed a reserved sign down and asked us to find another table when this time came which was only 15 minutes away. Straight away we all concluded that it was odd that the table had not shown a reserved sign on our arrival and because we intended to have a few beers felt disappointed that we were effectively being asked to leave because it was clear the pub was busy and finding another table would be almost impossible. We spoke to the manager lady and asked her if she felt it was appropriate to ask people to leave a table that they have occupied without a reserved sign for over an hour. Her response was swift and cold " The pub can reserve tables for other customers as it wishes to , we do this regularly " Our party decided to go and we all felt like we had almost been asked to leave the pub . One of us even joked that we felt we were going to be made to march to Charlton kings stocks nearby by this cold hearted manager and had rotten eggs thrown at us by the kitchen staff whilst she looked on. I have noted online that the Royal has been voted one of the best top 10 pubs In Cheltenham that caters for dogs. What a shame they don't look after people in the same way. I look forward to hearing back from the owners to discuss further as I feel we have been treated most disgustingly. Darren Taylor. Date of visit: January 2023
