The place is fine, cozy, the waitress who served us, very dry, we asked for a rump stake and a rare beef fillet, they gave us medium, we returned it and when they brought us the freshly made ones, the rump was good at its point but the fillet was very cold inside, the rest was fine but the kitchen or the chef was bad.
Stopped for lunch on a journey. Warm but rubbish. Not great service, poor portion. Was offered alternative to missing coleslaw, but still a bit rubbish.
Food was absolutely brilliant. The place was clean, and tidy. The front of house staff, our waitress wasn't great. Very unattentive, and a clear don't care attitude. Festive menu wasn't even available, which we didn't find out until we went to order. Surely this should be a menu should be top priority during the festive season!Food: 5/5
Visited the Cross Hands for a catch up with family and friend to exchange Christmas presents. Table was booked for 12.30 and we arrived 15 minutes early. Informed the waitress who told me she was on her own and very busy. Suggested we waited in the bar area until we were called. She was abrupt. We were finally seated around 12.55pm. The restaurant was very hot and it made us feel uncomfortable. When the waitress came to take our orders she was asked what the soup of the day was. She informed us that it was best to give it a miss as it wasn't very nice. The fish and chip dish was not available. We ordered off the Lunch menu. The mushroom starter was overcooked. The main course was served hot and the portions were large. My wife asked if it would be possible to have her dessert put in "doggie" bag but was told that this was not possible. When I paid the bill there was no discount for my wife's meal. When I pointed this out the waitresses informed me that there was nothing she could do about it. The overall service was not what you usually expect of staff at a Beefeater. A disappointing experience.
No heating where we were sat. No Sunday roast due to supply issues. Food we did have was mediocre & luke warm Unfriendly waitress who kept offering fries. I had to ask for the triple cooked chips which was shown on the menu. Manageress was very professional & friendly. Surroundings were clean with pleasant decor
Been coming here for over 45 years & over the past few years its been hit & miss. Waiting staff overall are brilliant, however the food can on occasions be below par. On out last visit grisly steak & warm chips, however the two other people dinning with me thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Parking: Plentiful parking during the daytime, but can sometimes be a but crowded in the evenings due to the Premiere Inn on site. Several disabled bays Wheelchair accessibility: Easy wheelchair access to the restruant by the disabled parking bays
Ordered food with my friends and was informed the waiting would be 30min. My friend got served after 15min, I waited 15 more min to ask where was my plate. Turns out my food was not available on the day. Asked the kitchen to quickly make me another order. Still nothing after 15min, I asked for a refund and left. Haven't heard any apology, the manager grudgingly refunded my soda too after she tried to refund the food only.
Very disappointed after our visit this evening. After arriving and asking for a table for two, we were coldly told that they weren’t accepting walk ins because they were too busy the restaurant was less than half full, we went outside and booked a table online and turned to be seated 30 minutes early by a different member of staff. All of the waiting staff proceeded to actively avoid our table as if to demonstrate their frustration at us managing to get a table in their “busy” establishment. When we finally got our food, the king prawn side my partner ordered looked like it had sat on the grill for hours and was chewy enough to back this up, my pulled beef barbacoa would have been just as well titled “Chappy” on the menu and served in a dog bowl. When we raised these issues with the server, her response to my comments about the pulled beef barbacoa was “that’s just how it comes”. I would return to Cross Hands but only if I had a gun to my head. Absolutely abhorrent.
Just went for a family birthday this weekend. Every meal was missing something whether that was coleslaw, garlic bread, the steak sauce salad, onion rings etc Steaks were overdone. Some corn on the cob was still frozen. As an example my partner and I ordered the vegetable mixed grill and three sides: extra beans, corn riblets and garlic bread. And an extra side salad. When the mixed grill arrived it was missing the coleslaw and corn. Instead of mentioning that they were out of these items when ordering they just left them off, not even an effort to add extra of other ingredients so we essentially had a plate with two pieces of red pepper, a half grilled tomato, one mushroom, a small pot of beans and some skinny fries. Not even enough for a child's portion. Then to top it off none of the sides arrived. When we asked they just said "oh we don't have those at the moment" which was almost hilarious if it wasn't so bizarre. Every person's meal was wrong or missing items. No apologies were made. It got to the point where we couldn't stop laughing because it was such a farce. In addition there's an older waitress who just gets to the table and hands all plates to one person and expected us to hand them out. I will never go back and I will now actively advise people to give it a miss.
Waited 15 min to be seated in a completely empty restaurant... Gave up and left. Is this a new business model?Service: 1/5
