Food was fantastic. Had then chicken and it was out of the world. Service was very good. When you walk up to the restaurant the smells were beyond welcoming. Would come back any time and order the chicken dish I had any time. So good. Worth a stop and give it a try. This place is worth em anything they say this food they make is worth. Stop here and not be disappointed.
Booked the day before for our sons birthday meal with a £10/head deposit which is understandable these days. Turned up a few minutes early and we were seated almost right away. The table setting was lovely and although we were away from the window with the views, we were happy and were served our drinks. Although there was a draught Guinness pump on the bar, it wasn't available so made do with a can. Everyone else had what they wanted. The menu is relatively simple but professional and 'fine dining' looking. We ordered three starters to share between five of us and it was sufficient with the delicious garlic bread. I ordered the sirloin steak photo and one of my sons ordered the mushroom linguine photo whilst two had the burger which they both said was excellent and my wife had the hake dish which she said was delicious. She was particularly happy with the risotto with cockles which came with it. All in all a lovely evening. Not low-cost but certainly worth it for a celebration. Our server forgot to ask his name was very professional and always available. Thank you.
Got seated 25 minutes late and served 3 course meal with 1 hour then told they needed table so had 15 minutes left. Even though they came back 3 times to remind us not once did they bring us the bill!? Soon got the bill for us as we got up and started to walk out!Food: 5/5
Fantastic food and excellent service! Couldn't fault it. Would highly recommend. Photos added of starter Florentine fishcake, main 12hour belly pork and dessert chocolate fondant.
The River House is located in a really nice area right next to the river, where they seem to be doing some nice development work to make the area more appealing to visit as it is abit outside the main part of the city. There are plenty of places to park, but if it's a busy day or something is on in town, it may be difficult to park. Staff were lovely and professional, checking up on us frequently throughout the meal while also having good knowledge of ingredients that you were being served as part of the meal. Overall food was really nice. The highlight of my meal were the Mussels, which may just be the best Mussels I have had in a long time. They did not skimp on the portion size even for a starter, and they may have been the biggest Mussels I have ever had! Sadly, the Belly Pork put a downer on the meal for me with its rubbery texture and laxi of Veg with old rinkled Roasties. The Belly Pork should be crispy and believe it was sat around a while before being served. The Chocolate Fondant was really tasty with a lovely gooey centre, but I do wish it was a little bigger as I could have had two of them. I would visit again, but I'd probably try something for Sunday Lunch unless they can perfect the Belly Pork.
Me and my partner frequented this establishment on the promanade for our anniversary. We were warmly received and the table service was impeccable. The food arrived punctually and was amongst the best we have had while living in South Wales. We most certainly will be booking again and hoping that we will continue to be surprised and indulged by this charming place.
Lovely restaurant with lovely custormer service. It was my first time in a nice restaurant I didn't know what most of the things in the menu were if I'm honest . Nonetheless the waiters were helpful when I asked about the dishes and reccomendations, I have to add the language skills the gentleman had, pleased to speak in Spanish with someone! Dishes were served on a Sunday: Starter- Calamari Main- Beef Dessert- Chocolate lava cake with vainilla ice cream Would definitely come back, I reccomend!
Great tasting food, right portion and reasonable price... Great service!Recommended dishesSeafood Chowder, Pan Fried Scallops
Pathetic portions at an exorbitant price. Hardly any veg. Half a carrot, small head of broccoli and a little cabbage. No potatoes at all for a Christmas meal. Food while good did not warrant the price for such a tiny portion. When asked for more veg the picture shows what we got when asking for additional veg for table of 9 in the interest of fairness the picture is missing the one single potatoe that one of us ate
The food is good but portion sizes are most certainly on the smaller side for the price. Drinks are obviously a little higher given the location but the coffee is excellently priced. High chairs and tables are wobbly though, definitely on their way out. Otherwise not a bad place on occasion. The bar is at its finest at dusk when the great lighting brings the atmosphere alive inside.
