Avoid at all costs, unless you want to get intoxicated and wait to grow white hairs. Very slow service and not functional. The cook was spinning round like he didn't know what he was doing, I didn't understand the role of the young waiter, pretending to be busy walking around for no reason at all. There is in essence only one person taking orders and she was very tired. Completely forgot about our order, blamed it on the ticketing service or maybe they didnt pay the subscription on the ticketing system and the trial run out on our order only, but not the orders after us. Served a table of 7 that arrived after us, before we got our food. Food was undercooked, dough still raw.nWe used to be regulars here, but it seems they don't want our money anymore. At least we only got charged only for the gammon tonight. Overall, disgraceful service.nLast time we came round they didn't want to serve us because we arrived 10 min before the kitchen would close. This time they made us wait 1h20 min and serve everyone else but us.nI can understand having a bad day/evening but it's becoming more of a regular thing here. Not gonna come back and I don't recommend it, unless they change the cook, and reorganise the staff. Very bad management that leads to so much waste.
Avoid the pizza unless you like very thick doughy base. We ordered pizzas here based on good reviews, the pizza we had was about an inch thick and very heavy. We complained, and they said the pizza thickness depends on the chef, this week they are thick. We asked to return it and they only gave us half the cost as refund despite us trying one slice. We were left with a bad taste.
Had the share platter today and what a meal that was. All different meats cooked to a really good standard. The veg was spot on. Gravy was another level with its own unique flavour. The belly pork was my favourite as it was juicy and crispy at the same time in my 31 years this is by far the best Sunday dinner I’ve had that’s for sure. Plenty of food also.
So glad I paid a visit to this place. As a foreigner who didn’t grow up having roast dinners on a weekly basis, I was so happy to try them here. Absolutely delicious. The pub is small but really cozy, nice decor, chill vibes. Staff were helpful and smiling. Prices are reasonable. Overall it was a very good experience and I will definitely return.
We went kayaking at Carsington Water and googled where to find a hearty pub lunch afterwards. This place did not disappoint! The pizzas are massive and delicious, I asked what gravy the cheesy chips came with and it's usually meat but they provided a jug of the meat and a second jug of gorgeous veggie gravy so me and my hubby could both enjoy dunking the chips! Super friendly staff, funky decor and dog friendly. Matlock is such a cool town too with all the quirky shops, we will deffo be back.
