Set in the lovely village of Hawkshaw, The Red Lion is the ideal place to get away from it all.

Story

We are a friendly, traditional pub that's ideal for Sunday lunch with the kids; a weekend away or a comfy bed (and breakfast) for a weary business person.

Our bar has a selection of JW Lees cask ales, wines, spirits and soft drinks. Keeping with our traditional theme, we also offer a wide variety of locally sourced, traditional home-cook food that is available in both our bar and restaurant areas, and is served Mon- Fri 11.30am - 9.00pm & Sun-Sun 11.30am - 8.30pm.

We have 8 en-suite rooms offering Freeview tv, tea & coffee making facilities and hair dryers. A delicious full English breakfast is included in the price to start your day off right.

I have discovered this place accidentally, when passing by. It looked really nice and spacey from the outside, so we decided to give it a try. What I liked: + nice location (private & on scenic route) + plenty of parking spaces + cozy and tidy from the inside + brilliant food - greetings for chefs! + warm good bye What I did not like: - greeting. No one met us at the door, so we came to the bar wondering if we need to wait for a table or just select what we want. Luckily the bar attender found us a table, however, he just gave the menus to our arms and showed where to go, what is more cafe-style approach rather than restaurant. - menu. For such a lovely place menu sheet and design could be way better and easier to read. Also the selection of food could be wider. - management of waitresses. I visited the Red Lion on busy evening and my middle aged waitress was very busy with several tables so I and another table were waiting for about 10 minutes to pay, meanwhile there were 2 or 3 young waitresses who seemed just to be standing and doing nothing. I used to work as waitress myself both in UK and abroad and know inside live of restaurants pretty well - it should not be like this.

Been visiting since 2001 and always does very good food. Service is excellent as well with nothing too much trouble. Always a small but varied beer section as well.

Plenty of parking and set in a nice location. We're exploring the local restaurants at the moment and found the menu very limited. Food was average. They forgot our deserts so we chased them up after 30 minutes of waiting. Alright customer service and fair price.

Second time we have stayed here and another lovely stay. Staff are all very friendly and helpful. Food is amazing. Thanks and will see you again soon

Customer service was excellent..they willingly substituted mash for fries on my main..forgot my shortbread biscuit which came with my dessert but apologised and came back with two....food was lovely!
