The Red Deer

About

Cosy and rustic style Vintage Inn with real open fires and heartwarming food. Traditional roasts every Sunday, Cask Marque ales and friendly team of staff

Story

Much of Balloch was built in the late 20th century to accommodate growing numbers of people who wished to reside in the pleasant commuter town of Cumbernauld with easy access to Glasgow. Balloch's name comes from a farm on the Cumbernauld Estate of the Fleming family. It is a derivative of Scottish Gaelic bealach, meaning a pass in hills or mountains.
A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

The Red Deer is a Hotel/Restaurant/Pub well worth a visit. The atmosphere is that of a country pub, carpet and parquet flooing, cosy, with a roaring open hearth fire only during the winter.nThe food was very good with a varied selection of meals. For starters we tried, Salt and PeppernCalamari, Deep Fried Breaded Brie, Soup of the day. For mains we tried, Hunters Chicken with chips, Macaroni, Aubergine with salad, Meat Pie with a red wine sauce and seared vegetables. Overall a bit pricey but dogs are allowed inside, so that's great.nThe staff were very helpful and professional.nWe hope to return in the future.
My friend and I had late lunch and were hogging a table having a good chat and the staff were super attentive and accommodating of the time we needed to elapse after lunch before we could fit dessert in. We really wanted a dessert and my brownie was excellent! Extra thanks to Amy and Leanne who updated our car registrations on the parking so we would not get a ticket for being over the 3 hours. The food was tasty, good value and great service. Bonus points for being dog friendly. Will definitely be back.
The food is so good, freshly and homey cooked meals, the service is good as well and the design of the restaurant is elegant yet relax. It has good seating capacity inside and spacious seating arrangements outside
Had a terrible experience on Sunday with family. My own meal was served with French bread on my dinner plate and the bread had green mould on both slices. How kitchen staff and the waitress didn't spot this is unbelievable. Also before the meal arrived we ordered Prosecco which arrived totally flat, with no bubbles, and a terrible taste to it. Never again
Food was excellent. Had the pate to start, good size and there was enough bread for the pate!!! Which is unusual . Had the fish and chips for main, the fish was super fresh and the batter was amazing, very different to usual but I liked it.nnService was a little slow if I'm being critical, but it was 5pm on a Monday evening and it was dead, issue is staff are behind the bar and can't see where we were seated so maybe felt a little forgotten.
