I came over here from The Grapes. Not the best experience there but that's a different review.nnWalked in to the Raven, approached the bartender and asked how it worked. He smiled widely at me and explained the different levels and their services.nnSo I walked up to the 2nd floor and a waitress walked up to me with a big smile and got me a table. Ordered a tea no I'm not going to review a tea and a steak pie because I had read about their reviews. It was the best pie I have eaten that I can remember. Unfortunately and fortunately the apple crumble was a little sour but here was the best part: my waitress noticed! She asked if anything was wrong and I told her it was really sour. Offered to get me something else, but I didn't need it.nnWhat followed next? Service recovery that I didn't expect. She got the chef to taste it and agree that it was unusually sour? After I finished my food she also regularly checked in on me naysayers may think she was hinting for me to leave as to free up the table but I don't believe so. My only regret? I didn't ask for her name so I couldn't address her by name when I thanked her. Sorry Miss Waitress, I just want to tell you I really appreciated your service.nnAll in all, my comparison of my first pub hop in the UK? If this was a negative scenario like needing an ambulance:nnThe Grapes Ambulance: Yes you're going to a hospital. No we don't have a defibrillator on board. What condition do you have? A fever? I recommend the Tylenol. That'll be £X, thanks goodnight.nnThe Raven Ambulance: Welcome aboard we're going to get you there smooth and fast. Here's your stretcher let me help you up. I'm going to put an oxygen mask on you as you didn't enjoy normal air. By the way do you want me to contact your relatives? Get well soon man I hope you recover fast and fully. Take care!nnI was so pleased I went back to level 1 and ordered a citrus flavored beer forgot the name. And the on shift female bartender was extremely friendly too.nnCame the following morning and 2 guys were there AND friendly at 9am. They didn't have what my mother wanted on the menu so we had to change places. Hope you had a good day dudes
Outstanding pub in all areas. Went in and had a drink downstairs, service, beer and atmosphere were excellent. Then realised there were two more floors upstairs. The 1st floor is mainly the restaurant area it seems and plenty of people eating. Then the 2nd floor is magic. It's a lovely cosy seating area surrounded by books to be read while you drink. The building is apparently early to mid 19th century and is quirky and works well as a pub. The Welsh barman knew his trade and his locals drinks before they asked. Will return for some food. A good pie is hard to find.
A nice and charming pub with a surprising amount of seating tucked away here and there. Good pub grub on the menu.nnWe visited several times over two days in Bath, and the crowds varied, though it got busiest in the evenings. At times it was tricky to get a table. I’d recommend the booths on the ground floor – some of the tables upstairs have annoyingly low tables or ridiculously high chairs. Their Pimm’s and their pies come highly recommended!
The Raven in Bath looks like a classic British pub that delivers top class food and drinks. I tried their venison pie and having venison for the first time too, wow it was comforting and very well made. The atmosphere was lively and cozy with wood-panelled floors and tight corners. The staff were very friendly and it was quite crowded when I got in. About the beer and ales, insane selection! Their house brews are strong with, I guess, a rotating menu. The price is expensive but you get what you pay for! The Raven is easily one of the top picks in Bath.
This is a busy pub/restaurant in the middle of Bath. It consists of several seating areas spread over 3 floors, each with a bar. The physical space is a little cramped and I nearly fell down the narrow stairs going to the toilet , but it has a cozy feeling all the same. The speciality of the house appears to be pies, and they go a very good of them. Great taste and presentation. Have to give an honorable mention to the gravy accompanying my beef pie, which was delicious. Beer selection is mostly local craft. Decent.
