Lovely menu including gluten free and vegan options, good size portions. Meals brought out together and were nice and hot. They were able to adjust the dish I chose for a gluten and dairy free diet. Was lovely sitting outside on a warm summer's evening to eat our meals. Very helpful staff. Advice for wheelchair users - pub entrance is accessible and they do have a larger toilet but this is an older "country pub" building, the corridor to and the door of the toilet is not modern standard width. I have an 18" manual sports chair with 3° camber on the wheel and just managed the gap with little room to spare. A wider or longer chair may well struggle so I would recommend factoring this in before a visit.
Really nice atmosphere, and really attentive staff, service was great. Absolutely recommend eating here - the starters and the mains are exceptional. I would recommend against the Crumble of the Day, as the crumble was completely off, hard and chewy. On asking for a replacement; even the replacement was off. This is the first time I’ve had to send back food.
Very pleasant pub/restaurant. Excellent staff. Even on busy days food is served very quickly. Very generous portions, would recommend their seafood platter. Very close to the train station, which is a plus if you fancy a or two.
Great place to stay and eat. Stayed a couple of nights to explore the local area, the room was lovely and reasonably priced. Lots of nice little touches. The food was excellent too and the staff friendly. Would highly recommend to both stay and eat.Rooms: 5/5
Sadly, we had an 'off' visit last night, with friends for dinner. Yes there were 7 of us not a huge group!, but the food wasn't served on hot plates & parts were barely warm. One meal off the specials board was really disappointing. The coffee machine was being switched off at 8.45, so no chance for an after desert coffee. So not the best experience.....
Good atmosphere. Visited as part of a quiz night. Very busy and staff managed really well. I was disappointed by the lack of vegetarian options on the menu. I chose lentil dish with tagliatelle - could only eat about a quarter of the meal - . The lentil sauce was lacking flavours and way too much garlic. Rest of my quiz team had meat curry no Vege option they were happy with their choice, I noticed not much left on their plates.
Ate here on a Saturday evening. Menu was a bit limited but had some good specials on the board. Staff were welcoming and although busy we were served fairly quickly.Service: 4/5
CHRISTMAS LUNCH.....Very disappointing! After a previously enjoyable lunch some months ago, my friends and I thought we would book for a Christmas lunch. The meal was only just warm, the turkey was dry, the sprouts were a strange colour and overcooked, and the roast potatoes soggy with no flavour. But the biggest disappointment was the White Chocolate Yule log! It was like a hard dry lump of stale Madeira cake covered in white chocolate. I think someone had forgotten to add the Mulled Wine to the Compote, as it only tasted of Blackcurrants. The whole meal was very disappointing. I have had much better in places like a Beefeater!! So will not be returning.
The Christmas lunch today, was very disappointing. Almost cold. Dry Turkey. Soggy Roast Potatoes, Soggy strange coloured Sprouts. The White Chocolate Yule Log was like a hard lump of stale Madeira cake, and the Mulled Wine compote only tasted of Blackcurrants. Big disappointment. Had better at a Beefeater!!
Great stay at the Railway Inn. Accommodation first class and lots of little extras that lift it above the usual b&b. Lovely hosts and we will definitely return.
