Was here at the QMU.for a Joanne Shaw Taylor blues rock concert which was superb. Support was the very talented Connor Selby.Performances, stage, lighting and sound were all superb but for the paying punters it is just another big barn of a place full of weird big tubes and pipes.80%, i guess is standing only. There is very little seating for poeple who are aged or infirm. Both in my own case. I was far from the stage on a very uncomfortable seat and had to use full zoom which makes clear, sharp focusing and good colour saturation very difficult. So tonight's photo essay is entitled "Night of the Bald Heads"On the plus side the sound guys got it right with vocal clarity from the PA and good balance on the instruments. I am sick and tired and have literally gone deaf and have chronic tinnitus after 54 years of standing out front of screaming distorted guitars and blow your hair off volume trying to be heard. Wonderful to hear Joanne's vocals clearly tonight. Must be heaven, Too late for me now. Its why lately I have stopped attending many jams and venues where people just dont know the damage they are doing.Wish i'd had this wisdom many years ago. Volume does not equal quality.
Was there in Dec to see the sweet . Never been before in my life but Def will be back . I had no idea , the music history of the place was amazing . Found the place hard to find , not being local ,so thanks to the two local workmen who pointed me in the right direction of it
Came for a Rachel Chinouriri gig recently, and have to say that Queen Margaret Union might be the most unwelcoming concert venue I have ever been to and I’ve been to a lot. Before getting in we queued for 20 minutes in the cold after “doors opening” to be met by a gruff, auld, chunky bouncer who accosted every male that walked past him with an aggressive “you had any drink tonight pal” as if drinking before a gig was a crime. Luckily for him I had just the one non-alcoholic beer before, so was sober enough to write this review. After him we were met with further pat downs and another gruff man who offered the atmosphere of a funeral as he directed us to get stamped. Total vibe killer.
Went to have lunch here today with my friend. We both had Spore curry laksa. It was good slightly different version of Brunei curry laksa. How strange they added char siu pork? I never had char siu pork in curry laksa. How weired they added Chinese leaves instead of beansprouts? Anyway, it was good enough to eat. We would come back here again.
Venue is nice size for a gig, the staff are a bit slow at getting people in and then just leave you in a different queue after checking tickets not even telling you once you through the door that it's for the clock room and that the venue is open and to just go in.
Attended a live gig at this venue, security and staff were great considering my limited mobility, great venue for live music
Great venue for a gig if you're like me and we'll beyond student age. Great staff, good range of drinks at decent prices and great views of the stage.
Overall an excellent place! The little cafe downstairs is a great place to go to study in between classes or to grab a quick, very reasonably priced, coffee especially with a qmu card discount!. The Asian pop up shop next to the music venue is also a great place to get lovely food, the curry chips are a personal favourite! The best part of the qmu however is the bistro on the top floor. The staff is amazing and the food is brilliant, would recommend for anyone looking for a tasty lunch! There are plenty other facilities there too, including a games room, and there are events there very often including vintage clothes sales!
Went to see the Wildhearts and had a great time the PA was good and Loud and we managed to get upstairs for a seat due to our bad legs. Saw Ginger outside while we were looking for the entrance, having came from Ashton Lane. Beer was ok, staff were nice. Kinda prefer the Garage for this size in Glasgow.
Great venue, we went to see Louis Dunford and had a great time. The bar is pretty reasonably priced compared to other venues. The subway stop was near the venue which was handy.
