Restaurants/bar with cosy atmosphere situated in old bank. There is a limited menu, soup, pizza and similar. Delicious smells radiate from the kitchen. The staff are helpful and friendly. There is a theatre in the back. You can reserve tables. Serves alcohol, wine and hot beverages. There is upstairs space. It is deceptively spacious. Toilets are upstairs with a ground floor disabled toilet. There is outside space with seats and tables at the side of the restaurant upstairs.
First time visitor and booked Sunday Lunch. Both myself and daughter ordered The Pork Belly roast. Absolute delight , pork, crackling and gravy were top class . Plenty of roasted veg and potatoes, also cooked to perfection. Unhealthy but delightful portions! The Assembly room is atmospheric with rose ceilings and other decor showcasing it's historic past matched with unfussy furnishings to make it all feel homely. Noted that they'd put thoughtful sound breaks on the cieling which ensure peoples conversations are kept to their tables...Warm and snug inside despite zero temperatures outside. Staff welcoming and friendly. Oh yes trademark Bloody Mary was also perfect with for me just the right amount of tobascco to give us a warming kick. 10/10 experience.
We dropped in by chance and enjoyed the atmosphere in there and the staff were very helpful. Not a large menu but what we had was very good especially the pizza and lamb kofta.
Just had our first roast here after being for drinks and dinner in the past, it was absolutely incredible and service was friendly and relaxed. I had the lamb but others the beef, pork and nut roasts which were great too.
They have really good food especially for roast Sundays. They also offer live music and theater shows. I recommend that location.Food: 5/5
This is a good place for atmosphere. The room is impressive with traditional features. Some parts of the interior look like they need some TLC mind. We booked in on a Sunday and sat on the balcony indoors although we were offered a spot on the roof garden - it was far too warm for that though. Despite the weather, we ordered roast dinners. I had the vegetarian strudel which was very nice and not too cheesy which I find is often a worry with vegetarian options. Everything was lovely apart from from my potatoes which were a little firm/less crispy but others said their potatoes were fine so maybe I got the bad ones! For a roast dinner, I think this is fantastic value for money.
We were looking for a place to have dinner at. Just coincidentally we found the Old Market Assembly. We ordered different pizzas, dough balls and something to drink. They do not have the "normal" pizzas on the menu but some more special, all extraordinarily tasty. The waiter recommended an IPA which my husband liked a lot. The service was lovely and attentive. Definitely recommend this place. Kid-friendliness: They were extra friendly to our daughter.
I feel that the gluten free base for the pizza could be Improved. But pizza was delicious! My wine was not good so I took it back and no issue made and changed for a fresh one. Amazing venue for music and theatre and dinner all in one. Love this place. Vegetarian options: Veggie pizza Dietary restrictions: Gf
Lamb Sunday Roast, portion was a bit small so also ordered a side of cauli cheese which came out bubbling and very cheesy 10/10! All the food was great and really tasty. The lamb was quality and roast potatoes crispy. I was a little disappointed with the veg, again super yummy - but just half a carrot and small portion of greens which I'd have loved loads more of plus another potato or two... to make it 5* I'd definitely go back, great service from the waitresses too
We went for Sunday lunch yesterday. They were clearly slammed. However, the wait staff always kept us updated on the wait, always had a smile and attended to our requests so quickly. The kitchen was taking a while to get orders out but at no point did that compromise the quality of food. Which was all fantastic. Would much rather wait an extra 10mins for food and have it come out the way it did. Have been before, will definitely go again.
