We were expecting a quaint "inn hotel" with a beer garden, however upon arriving it became obvious the hotel aspect was not their priority and it was far more of a busy pub than hotel. There were no clear instructions on how to check in, and even the staff didn't seem sure. We had to wait in the busy bar for a while before being seen to. The worst part about our stay here was by far the fact that they had a DJ playing hardcore drum & bass, and heavy rock music until well after 1am with absolutely no soundproofing in our sauna of a room. After the beer garden shut off around 1am, more music started what sounded like inside the venue. Not to mention the local nightclub that played extremely loud music until 5am!! We had one of the worst sleeps of our life, and we were furious that this wasn't mentioned at all when booking the hotel. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL IF YOU WANT A GOOD SLEEP! On top of the loud music blaring all night, you could feel every spring in the double bed. The TV was not connected to any form of internet, anti also didn't work when I tried myself. When we first turned the TV on, the first thing that popped up were the adult TV channels... Lovely! Honestly extremely disappointed with the "hotel" aspect of our stay. Pub & restaurant were nice, but they should seriously consider improving their accommodation. Double glazed windows would be a good start. Rooms: Very uncomfy beds. No sound-proofing at all. Food & drinks: Good food and drinks. Our chicken & plant-based burgers were really nice!
I booked a Sunday lunch for 20 on a busy sunny post Birmingham half marathon bank holiday weekend I know - rubbish timing The pub team were great - accommodated allergies, a few last minute changes and the dreaded splitting of the bill. The food was lovely - the Baileys Cheesecake was amazing and it was a great atmosphere. Highly recommend and a big thank you to the two female staff who worked so hard to make it run so smoothly.
The oldest inn in Birmingham; 1368. Decent pint of Guinness. Not bad prices. Brilliant Tudor aesthetics. Very pretty pub. Actually, quite a big pub with a beer garden/events area. It's definitely worth a visit.Service: 5/5
Beautiful place. Wouldn't like to be drunk with the bedroom floors though! Like being at sea. Only criticism really would be that they could do with some new mattresses. Apart from that, it was a beautiful place, lovely staff, really appreciated how the ancient features have been kept and highlighted rather than covered and "modernised" If you're expecting an early night though be warned! The walls and floors are not noise cancelling
Booked for an evening meal for 3 people unfortunately the welcoming was cold. Initially we were ignored, once I stated we had a table booked we were dismissed and left standing at the bar for over 5 minutes wondering what was happening. Finally we were seated. The food was lovely and the building itself is very nice full of history. The hostess only returned to collect our plates but hastily as only one of the three had finished their meal.
We stayed last night as we were visiting Birmingham for a night to attend a music concert at the o2 Institute. The welcome we received was warm and friendly from the guy behind the bar and although they were clearly busy it didn't take long for us to be shown to our room. We upgraded to the Quadruple room last minute and I am so glad we did as it was gigantic as was the bathroom!! I had read previous reviews about the noise from outside there are other venues close by and a busy main road and I am glad I did as I think if I hadn't been expecting it I would have been shocked as it was definitely quite difficult to sleep and had we have had the children we would have had even less. The room was clean and the shower was lovely.. the tea making facilities were very welcomed in the morning to warm up as the room did get cold during the night due to the age of the building and old windows etc. I would definitely return as it's a great location for the Train station and Bullring.. would recommend.
Great atmosphere and in a good location. I like they have kept the traditional pub feel but also with the outdoor space cater for all different events and have music on etc not tried the food but will maybe visit on a quieter time.Rooms: 5/5
If I could put 0 I would. I stayed in the old crown on a Saturday night. I get it it's a pub, it's Saturday it will be noisy. But is there an actual need for loud music up until 4 in the morning? Surely the costumers of the pub should have been kicked out or asked to keep it quiet? That and the isolation is non existent, you'll hear your neighbors caught in the next room. It might be a cheap stay but it's not even worth what you get! Run away, sleep in your car, chances are it will be quieter!
Cosy modern interior design to an extremely historic venue. Obviously renovated numerous times, but you can still sense the history. there are helpful info blurbs dotted around the building. On a separate but equally important note, the food was faultless... a statement I have never made in my 34 years of eating food. Walkability: Around 5-10 minutes walk from digbeth coach station located on the opposite side of the road Food & drinks: Great classic pub selection. The loaded chips were cooked and loaded perfectly. Noteworthy details: Lots of history, got a window seat at the front of the building and the window frames semmed v.old, the experience felt quaint and cute. I'd suggest walking around and examining the building of its history.
We had a pre-cinema fish&chips here. It was alright tho a tad high at £15 Mrs had a veggie thing. It was alright. Overall? It was passable. Possibly the thickest chips in the whole of England. Prices slightly highService: 2/5
