Never been to this venue before, so shame the main bar was closed for renovations and also were not taking interval drink orders. Some nice interior details, but also quite a tired looking decor in places, in comparison to other old theatres. The show we saw was entertaining enough. We sat in the grand circle. View pretty unobstructed. Seats quite uncomfortable and creaked, and theatre staff constantly walking around behind was quite distracting. Would go back for the right show, but maybe after renovations are done. Good location to get to. Only show I've been to where no programme was available for purchase. Made a donation to the theatre instead.
Thoroughly enjoyed a tour as part of the Heritage open days. Very informative. Thanks to the volunteers who share their time supporting a unique venue.
A stunning small city centre theatre with great intimate views for those in the stalls and circle. The theatre is very old so expect bar areas and toilets to reflect that. Staff very polite and worked well to get the queues down at the bar. Definitely looking at the list of acts they have coming up this year to come back.
I had a tour of the Tyne Theatre with my Mam as part of Heritage Open Days. I'm so impressed with the theatre and the people. We've both had a fantastic tour through this incredible gem of a building! The guides were friendly and very entertaining, and although I'm not normally a theatre goer, I have a feeling I'll be back! Highly recommended! :
First time at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House and I was really surprised how lovely the stage looks. Fantastic place, hidden like a little gem.The staff was very friendly, guided us, and showed where the toilets and the tuck shop were. I'll be definitely going back
Went to watch Leigh Francis and were seated in the gallery row H. A great show sadly missed due to the impossible view we had. I would suggest the theatre taking out this row of seating as we 4 people had to stand literally on the back of our seats to see the show. I understand the price may be cheaper for those seats and I was thankful to be able to see the show partially but I think the theatre are robbing people of their money continuing to advertise this seating area of the theatre. I understand it’s a charitable theatre, but I attend and pay my money to see a show. At least advertise the seating as very partial view. Picture below show our view from the seats.
Very knowledgeable tour guides. It was very interesting to see under the stage. It would have been great to see more theatre tricks like the thunder rolls. Eg lights/smoke/ scenery. I would recommend this tour!
Stunning old beautiful building, however there were super long queues for the bar and the ladies 3 toilets!! To be expected I suppose, when there's 800 people there. The show we saw was entertaining enough, and we enjoyed the evening.
Ive been here tonight to see elvis. Three things. 1. Darren told me not to drink so much. It was such a boring concert I fell asleep. Apparently that means I had too much to drink. I was pulled aside by Darren. How embarrassing! 1 glass of wine before the performance for me. The security were very young and inexperienced. What a shame. 2. However, the performer made some very inappropriate jokes about Gary glitter and jimmy saville. Disgusting jokes on stage and he should be ashamed of his comments. 3 as a musician, this was a third rate performance and the music was of a poor quality. If you want to enjoy a performance here, check it out in advance. Third rate on my opinion. Several people left the gig early. I wonder why?
Fantastic to see this theatre is still going strong. Saw Nathan Carter here at the weekend and the atmosphere was brilliant. There are parts of the building that of course could be updated and renovated toilets mainly! but that does go with the age of it.
