The Navigation Inn
"A picturesque canalside setting, stunning period features and delicious pub food and drinks make The Navigation at Stoke Bruerne a must-visit. Our pub is located in the charming old village of Stoke Bruerne, which lies on the Grand Union Canal, near the Blisworth Tunnel. Take a stroll along the tow path, which is peppered with wonderful historic locks. Eat indoors amidst wooden beams and exposed stone walls, or sit canal side to while away the afternoon on the terrace with food, drinks and friends; a great stopping place for cyclists and dog walkers."

Booked a table for 4 people on a Friday evening to celebrate a wedding anniversary. It took 52min for us to receive our food, the kids food had turned into rubber by the time it got to us, from the microwave. The steak was ok, not better than a Hungry Horse or Weatherspoon. I think they were really short staffed 1 behind bard, 1 waitress that certainly didn't help with the experience and there was no apology for the delay. We will visit again due to lovely location but not for food.
We went here for lunch today and had a great experience. The man and women behind the bar were very welcoming. We got a lovely table by the window to watch the canal boats go by… The ploughman’s salad was fresh and tasty and only £11, the kids meal sausage and chips was lovely and the bowl of chips I was impressed with proper chunky tasty chips. I don’t normally write reviews and after nosing about the other reviews i was suprised as I had a totally different experience. I said to my mum when we left the service was so good and attentive it would defo make me want to visit again the future. They also have fresh home made cakes on the bar for only £4 which I can’t wait to have with a cuppa before bed :- highly recommend x
Yesterday evening we booked to celebrate my daughter's birthday, just 4 of us as a family meal. We decided to sit outside as it was gorgeous weather. 3 bar staff working behind the bar but only 1 serving. When I went up to order food I was asked quite abruptly....do you know what we haven't got....my reply was...clearly not as you haven't told me ... everything we wanted we couldn't have and when it did arrive it took it's time via a different table. I asked where the cutlery was, I was told in a sullen voice...it's on the bar.... To say I was disappointed is an understatement, you have a beautiful building in beautiful surroundings yet your staff let you down immensely. If I didn't already have a full time job, I would be applying to work here to give your customer's great service as I have plenty of hospitality knowledge which your staff seriously are lacking.
Lovely experience, great decor and atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff. Really enjoyed my time at Navigation :- I am lactose intolerant and was happy to be able to enjoy a roast dinner and pudding!!Food: 5/5
The food was lovely but a very long wait nearly an hour as apparently there was a buffet being catered at the same time. We booked our table several days in advance and can assume that the buffet was known about then so perhaps a courtesy email or phone call could have been sent/made so we knew about the delay and could decide whether it was acceptable before confirming plans?
Lovely walk along the canal with the dogs. Decided to stop off for Sunday lunch. Delicious Roast beef served with lots of perfectly cooked veggies and a giant Yorkshire pudding with lashings of gravy. Dogs loved it just as much as we did!Food: 5/5
Great village pub alongside the Grand Union canal. Sadly however, management has changed recently I assume as the bar service was very slow, due to lack of trained staff, and indeed the overall number of staff. Average wait for drinks 20 mins with long queue at bar as well. We were there in a Saturday afternoon, yet it was only manned by one person, and a trainee. Standards in food quality have also dropped. Don't order the cheesy garlic bread... Minimal grated cheese not melted on top of a cut bread, with what I think was a fine drizzle of garlic oil... Not worth the money. I ordered Chicken Caesar salad too, which had mostly chicken, and some fine shavings of lettuce not fresh and hidden underneath the chicken. Definitely not what I would expect from a bar/restaurant, and an insult to charge such a high price for it. Please address your staffing levels On a positive, the young lady who served us at the table tried her best, but I felt for her, because it was clear to see she was getting over run and struggling to keep pace with the tables. Please don't think this happened because of a busy weekend, because my friend went there mid-week recently too. This was a low customer attendance evening, and still suffered the same standard of service. Historically, this has always been a great pub with great service and food. So something has happened recently too make their usual standard drop like this. By all means check all my other reviews and you'll see I don't usually make negative comments. However sometimes places need to understand just how much their standards have slipped. I genuinely hope this is a blip in quality for this place as I know they've been great in the past.
Whilst the food was good then service was almost non existent. We visited earlier and the restaurant was very busy as it was a bank holiday. However on return for our booking it was fairly quiet. Our starter calamari arrived after a fairly long wait. It was then some time before the main arrived which I believe my wife's was not complete no vegetables but ate anyway. The food was well cooked. Nearby tables received wrong orders. We decided on dessert but were never spoken to and after 30 minutes decided to leave. On leaving nearby tables had not been cleared. Maybe we should have complained but we put the experience down to it having been a busy day. We hoped to return today but I think we'll be trying the nearby pub for our food. The staff we did have interaction with were pleasant.
Very comfortable, friendly place. Nice folks working there made us feel very welcome, put us by a radiator because we'd been out in the cold. We each had a vegan burger with chunky chips, and a couple liters of pepsi, and we shared pita bread with hummous, and an order of onion rings. It was all very tasty, although the vegan burger patties were a bit dry. Nothing extra ketchup couldn't fix! We also liked that they brought the ketchup and mustard bottles to the table, rather than bringing a little thimble full and acting like it was fine liquour, like a number of other places have done. I mean, who has a pile of chips and a pile of onion rings, and uses a teaspoon of ketchup? Well done, folks! Not the cheapest place we've eaten, but one of the nicest so far. Vegetarian options: Saw quite a few vegetarian options on the menu, but far fewer vegan choices. What we had was good, though.
We were a family of 3 adults and a child, we entered the building and were asked if we’d booked, I apologised and said I didn’t realise I needed too, the waiter said it’s best too but today will be okay, they’re not busy, he then invited us to pick a table. The tables of four are a bit cramped, there was plenty of room so we sat down on some comfy seats set for six. The young waiter returned and asked us if we’d move just in case they get busy, I’ll add here the time was 2:30pm I looked around at all the empty tables a little surprised but we agreed without comment and decided we’d move to the outside seating which was all laid out in a larger seat setting. We had three different meals, they were all reasonable, the homemade kebab will leave you feeling hungry, there isn’t much on it for £15 three squares of chicken and two overly cooked Chorizo pieces but the other two dishes looked better and had a bit more to them. You’re paying for the location and setting which is lovely, the food menu has a nice choice but a little over priced, the staff could be a little friendlier, worth a visit but lots of room for improvement.
