Quite disappointed because the most iconic pieces of the gallery were gone to another exhibition across the country. Although I was upset, I still appreciated all the other artworks and exhibits available. The rooms are quite confusing and there are very few maps available so you might find yourself going into the same rooms over and over. I visited for about 2h, it was enough, I would read and spend a little more time looking at the paintings that got me more interested. But if you’re truly an art aficionado you could easily spend all day there.
The National Gallery is an incredibly clean and well-maintained museum, offering a wide array of must-see artworks. From Renaissance masterpieces to Impressionist gems, the collection is truly impressive. It’s a place where you can easily spend hours exploring the rich history of art. If you’re visiting London, this museum should definitely be on your list of things not to miss. The experience of seeing these iconic pieces up close is unforgettable, making it a highlight of any trip to the city. Whether you're an art enthusiast or a casual visitor, the National Gallery offers something for everyone.
The National Gallery is an outstanding cultural treasure in London, located at the Trafalgar Square. I am touched by its mission: art belongs to everyone. This inclusive philosophy is evident in every aspect of the gallery, from the free admission to the welcoming environment for visitors of all ages. The gallery’s commitment to accessibility is particularly commendable, allowing children to accompany their parents. This ensures that everyone, including families who can’t afford childcare, can enjoy the gallery’s vast and impressive collection. The collection itself is remarkable, featuring masterpieces from renowned artists across various periods and styles. The layout is intuitive, making it easy to navigate through the different galleries. A visit to the National Gallery is not just an exploration of art but an inspirational experience. Highly recommended for anyone visiting London!
Loved the art. Not much I can add, a lot to process and it feels like moving through history, it’s possible to do so chronologically as well so that is something to try and do. Must visit when in London, top class! Best be there when it opens cause it gets packed throughout the day.Visited onWeekdayReservation recommendedNo
This collection is huge! There was so much to see I got a bit overwhelmed. This was also day three of an unplanned museum extravaganza, so I was a bit tired. But their audio guide was great and made everything way more digestible. Definitely book a FREE ticket in advance!! I booked for 12:15pm and was able to zoom right in despite there being a line out the door and around the corner ! The £5 audio guide was worth it as well. It goes over 16 of their paintings, but if you get easily overwhelmed at museums this is a great way to see a core collection and it comes with directions to each painting.
When visiting the National Gallery in London you should: - Aim for early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds. - Use the gallery’s app to navigate and gain deeper insights into the artworks. Because of how big and complex the gallery is, you can easily get lost. - Not everybody knows that the gallery offers free guided tours that provide valuable context which can enhance your experience.
Absolutely a must when in London! It has a large collection of art pieces from ancient to contemporary. One of the special exhibitions: last Caravaggio is small but exceptionally well curated. The gallery is huge, clean and well air conditioned. The queues to enter the Gallery are orderly.Wait timeUp to 10 min
One of the best art museums in the world, and it remains free as all museums should be. Location in Trafalgar gives it good ole English gravitas. Sit on the steps outside and watch the world go by. I love the vintage sofa seats in the galleries.Visited onWeekdayWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedNo
I cannot claim to be the biggest expert of the art that was on display in this museum, but the person I attended with certainly was. We both enjoyed our time in the museum and our only complaint was that we would have preferred to have had more time. Definitely would recommend.
Can easily walk through it in a day without problems and they have a decent amount of paintings. No statues so do know that but the paintings are well selected. They also have a nice cafe with a good menu as well. For a free museum it’s a delightful experience to visit.Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 min
