Tate Modern

Story

Tate Modern is a modern art gallery located in London. It is Britain's national gallery of international modern art and forms part of the Tate group (together with Tate Britain, Tate Liverpool, Tate St Ives and Tate Online). It is based in the former Bankside Power Station, in the Bankside area of the London Borough of Southwark. Tate holds the national collection of British art from 1900 to the present day and international modern and contemporary art. Tate Modern is one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary art in the world. As with the UK's other national galleries and museums, there is no admission charge for access to the collection displays, which take up the majority of the gallery space, while tickets must be purchased for the major temporary exhibitions.HistoryBankside Power StationTate Modern is housed in the former Bankside Power Station, which was originally designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the architect of Battersea Power Station, and built in two stages between 1947 and 1963. It is directly across the river from St Paul's Cathedral. The power station closed in 1981.Prior to redevelopment, the power station was a 200m long, steel framed, brick clad building with a substantial central chimney standing 99m. The structure was roughly divided into three main areas each running east-west - the huge main turbine hall in the centre, with the boiler house to the north and the switch house to the south.

The Tate Modern is completely free to enter and you are able to see 90% of the museum. However, there are some special exhibit areas in the museum that you have to pay a few in order to view. It is easy to get lost or lose track of what path you took; because there are several. I do like how there are several souvenir shops spread throughout the various floors of the museum. One of the pictures I posted is the view from an outdoor observation deck that can be found on one of the floors.
Some great art here. Some I did not like/get. All part of the experience though. Spent a great three hours here with my daughter who loves art. The free exhibitions are brilliant. Definitely worth a visit.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
Adore the Tate Modern. It's been a staple since I was a toddler - I'm now 23! It's a great free thing to do in London and a good day out. The permanent collection is brilliant. The building is the best - especially the turbine hall - as a kid I was totally mesmerized by just how BIG it is. There's lots of lovely space to sit outside as well, and the Corner Cafe is great too.
Nice Art Gallery, lots of exhibitions were free with a few only free for members. We got there early enough so there was no line. There's a drawing cube very entertaining for kids, as they can draw on the pad and have it sent to the projector to present on the wall. There's also an option to scan, download and print the art work on the T-shirt. The kids had a blast there.
One of my favorite museums. Currently it has several interesting exhibition including Yoko Ono and Anthony McCall. I stay the whole afternoon there. Can’t get enough of it. One suggestion : join the membership. Most of the exhibitions are free to entry but four of them need additional ticket. The total cost of them is already over the membership fee.
Went to see the Expressionists exhibition and it was brilliant. Love the Kusama Infinity Rooms that went on for 2 years and I went 3 times. And the Cezanne. Tate has brilliant exhibitions every year plus their free entry art works. Go there early as it gets very busy from 12noon onwards especially during the summer holidays. It’s a must visit place if you like modern art.
Love this museum. It's worth coming back to every few years. The architecture is incredible and they have changing exhibitions. I enjoyed the food too and the shops inside have great booksVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
The museum features expansive floors filled with numerous pieces of artwork. Some exhibitions require an additional ticket for entry. I visited on a Thursday, so it was not too crowded. The museum is divided into multiple levels, with some areas featuring dark rooms where projectors display various videos about the artwork. I think I will visit it only once, but not again.
Tate Modern is a dynamic and enriching cultural experience that offers something for everyone, from the casual observer to the seasoned art lover. It’s a place where modern and contemporary art come to life. I had a great time that I forgot to take more pictures, lol.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
I recently visited Tate Modern, and my experience was quite neutral. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. There were some fascinating pieces of contemporary art that caught my attention. However, many exhibits didn't resonate with me personally. The layout can feel a bit overwhelming at times, and I found myself wandering without a clear sense of direction. On the plus side, the museum offers free entry to its permanent collection, which is a great opportunity for anyone curious about modern art. Overall, it was an interesting visit and one that left a lasting impression on me.
