Ale was a tiny bit out of condition and it's around £4 a pint not unusual in Edinbrugh. But it's in a nice wee spot, good chat from the bar staff and overall a great place for quiet pint or five.
Popped in for a couple of beers, good selection in a modern bar but with a pub feel. Wanted to order chicken wings which are a specialty by all accounts 60 for £20! but didn't have any which was a shame. Has some sides as bar snacks that were nice enough. Nothing to write home about but a nice enough bar.
Traveling from US. First meal in Scotland. I was not disappointed. Get the fish and chips.
This is a great place for pub grub. The burgers were very good. Only downside is the pub is very noisy so not somewhere for a romantic night out! The food is reasonably priced although the drinks are quite expensive but in line with the area. A nice place to go for a relaxed evening out.
Great, fast service and good food. They were, unfortunately out of nachos, but their baked potatoes were generously portioned and their mozzarella sticks were to die for. Their chicken and sweet potato soup was a bit too chunky for my liking but it was flavourful, warming and delicious
Tight knit bar spread across the elongated shop fronts, with the bar itself taking up quite a bit of floor space. Doesn’t take much to fill or look busy, which is part of its charm. Picturesque from the outside, and modern, sharp decor inside. Service always been good, usually well staffed for its size.
Lovely plave to while away an hour or so. Nice friendly local bar...... Great menu..... 3 delicious starter/bar snacks for £12..... What a bargain. Will definitely be going back again.
Melville's is tucked away on William Street, one of those hidden roads only a stones throw from the bustling centre of town but lesser known unless you work in the area or know Edinburgh pretty well. The street is all old fashioned cobbles, but very much in the chic district of the new town. They serve both food and drink - the food is good without being exceptional and the drink whilst not cheap is still reasonable by Edinburgh city centre standards with a decent selection of beers and whisky's. They also show live sports here, so it's a good place to take in the football and relax with a pint. The staff are friendly, the decor is modern enough, the pub is kept clean and the atmosphere is friendly - it's exactly what a bar should be, albeit without doing anything which particularly makes it stand out. Thumbs up.
Truly awful experience this afternoon - barman was insulting and downright rude; and embarrassed me in front of my visiting friends, and their children. He had no interest in our custom, so the 15 of us went to the Ghillie Du - where our children were welcomed, and so were we. I've lived here for 20 years and never felt so unwelcome in an Edinburgh pub. Do yourself a favour and walk on by...
Treat with care Battered Haddock & Chips. Classic dish but on the occasion I tried it Oct 2014 it was dripping in fat. Accompaniments served in pots on narrow wooden board make it difficult to eat off Price: average but service reasonably good. Hopefully there has been an improvement in standard of cooking and that my experience was an one off.
