Really lovely, great renovation its has still got its old charm. No booking, it was really busy really hard to find a table. The food was amazing, we had the chicken supreme it was so delicious. Staff great helpful they let my friend taste a wine before we bought the bottle. Will go again maybe not a Friday night. Love it and the Fitzherbert.
A little hidden gem of a place. Based on the Dad's Army character, Captain Mainwaring, the place had memorabilia and murals of the cast of the TV show on the walls. The food was different and very good, and you'd better like large helpings!! There are many cosy rooms in which to eat and drink, connected by corridors and tight, winding stairs. The whole place is steeped with character. The pub itself is set in a quaint country area, surrounded by villages, woodland, streams and little bridges.
A very cosy and pleasant pub. The candles all over the place really added to the experience as well. Really good food for the prices, and absolutely delicious. Tables and chairs were comfy and had plenty of room. Service wait was great as well considering that the inside of the pub was full when we were ordering food. Would highly recommend for lunch! Whilst it wasn't on-site there was plenty of space in the official pub car park and it was only across the road. Easy and safe to access.
We visited on a wet Monday afternoon to found the atmosphere friendly and warming. The Dad's Army / 40s vibe is good fun without overwhelming the natural character of the pub. The daytime menu is well priced and we enjoyed the fish finger sandwich - it was proper slices of fish with lovely chips and salad. Good selection of beers and wines, great pub and we will be heading back soon!!
A beautiful cosy country pub with delicious food and a well kept pint of real ale. The quality of the food is outstanding I had the haddock, chips and lightly minted peas, the fish was huge with crispy batter and tasted amazing, the staff were friendly and polite we will definitely be returning.
Was ok nothing special prefer the blockhouse down the road. Staff were ok and the pub is old and quirky. Lots of locals with their dogs and was busy for a small place. Food was ok pies looked made in house but was bland and it don't know if the pastry is made with lard but everything on the plate taste the same weird taste red cabbage chips all tasted the same and became a bit much. Wouldn't go again really felt cramped.
We ate at the Mainwaring on 18th December 2022 and it was absolutely first class. The food was perfectly cooked, hot and that includes the plate it was served on. Tim Bird should send the kitchen staff from the Fitz here for training!Food: 5/5
Avoid if you are a multi generational family of plus 4, as the steep stairs are an issue for people 70+. Only interested in groups up to 4 in accessible areas as there is a good chance you are trendy, young and gave the "look", not designed for families to enjoy. Food good, but other local chains provide better facilities for families.
Lovely meal, starter was the best part of the meal. Main was good, but the starter had blown me away with the flavours. Service was excellent and overall great experience.Food: 4/5
A lovely olde worlde inn with adjoining tea rooms. Good food selection for both lunch or dinner, same menu A large carpark, pub is accessed via steps though.the service was good and quick. The seating arrangements are quirky . The toilets are accessed from the bar/ dining areas via steep steps.
