We always read reviews before choosing a place for anything. We look for both reviews — positive and negative to balance it out. The Edinburgh Lodge reviews are good but I wonder how they received good reviews. Look wise lodge looks good. We were here for three nights. Actually on our first night we arrived at 10:00pm so pretty late. No one was at front desk due to it must be a small family owned lodge. Next day we had a packed day so when we arrived back late in the evening, our room was not cleaned, no beds were made, no towels were replaced with new towels, no tea/coffee refilled. We went to speak to front desk person and had to wait 15 minutes to talk to the front desk person. He said well my boss said that you had to let us know that you needed your room cleaned we automatically do not clean your room. Bedsheets and duvet for the comforter looks like it belongs to different size bed. No fitted sheets for the bed. Carpet looks pretty filthy. Overall, EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with the hotel. DO NOT recommend this hotel. Please take your business somewhere else.
Stay was nice here! The front desk people are friendly and communicative. My friend and I arrived late past the check in time they do close around 6:00! but they have lock boxes where you can access your key after hours and communicated that through an email. The rooms are not big, at least the one double bed suite is not. However, they are nicely kept and clean - just what my friend and I needed for a 1 night stay. The only thing I would say was not pleasant is the bathroom hardly ventilates. Beware - After a shower, everything in the bathroom is wet and damp and it will stay like that. Other than that, for the price, it’s acceptable and about a 15 minute walk from the Edinburgh castle. They also hold your bags for free until 5:00 on a check out day which was appreciated since my friend and I wanted to explore the town before catching a flight!
Great experience! Humanized service. Really friendly staff. Accommodating to our schedule. Even told us a local supermarket down the road, which offers local grocery , beer and wines. Saved our trip food cost.Rooms: 5/5
What a crying shame, this place as massive potential with the right people in charge. Just a 30 min walk to the castle and free parking a huge positive but that's it, although bed was comfy and room good size. Service was very very poor, only 1 member of staff about, he was changing rooms, running reception and cooking breakfast which obviously is a disaster waiting to happen The breakfast was particularly poor, no milk for cereals although they were on display, no fresh fruit available and the produce served was very very cheap and poor. This place is in such disarray and its a crying shame, needs someone to inject and invest a bit of time into it, to bring the standards back up
Older style building converted into a lodge. Quaint styling located close to bus stops into downtown or 15 minute walk. Rooms are a bit small compared to North American hotels but the classic design makes up for it. Breakfast is made daily. Joe, who serves the meals and works the front desk is just a solid, nice guy who will do what he can to take care care of the guests.
Great place to stay a nice a cozy guesthouse, close to center and very clean as well. The staff was friendly, and the lady that spoke over the phone was really nice and accommodating. 10/10 would recommend.
Edinburgh lodge was very nice for us. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was delicious, obviously it was prepared straight away unlike the other hotels/guesthouses which precook their breakfasts. Love this guesthouse and would come back again next year.
There was no heating! At a hotel! In Scotland! Not sure I have the words! In fairness, we were offered an old electric radiator, to make a choice between freezing over or being burned to a crisp in an electrical fire... The on-site staff while seemingly well intentioned, do not seem to have proper resources to meet even the most basic requests. Rooms are poorly kept and guest treatment by management is indifferent at best. Would avoid at all costs. The ratings and reviews are overly generous, and misleading for anyone who expects to stay at something remotely resembling a hotel! We ended up eating the cost of our booking to stay elsewhere, and were refused any refund or apology.
Definitely five star. I have stayed at dozen of hotels in Edinburgh. This was on the top of the list of best stays ever. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. Staff was very hospitable and there for every need of mine. Thank you so much. I would definitely come back again and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Edinburgh!
Beautiful place, very clean, bus stop situated directly across the road.Rooms: 5/5
