It's not just a museum - It's a living history experience!

What was once the WW2 operational headquarters of the United States Air Force 8th Fighter Command is today home to The 1940s Experience, a part of the Lincolnsfields Children's Centre, which is run by the Lincolnsfields Children's Charity. The 1940s Experience offers exciting, unique educational trips for both children and adults.

For children and young people we offer two study opportunities under our Children at War Evacuees Experience programme. These are group day visits for schools and, uniquely in the UK, 3-day residential visits; which allow pupils to fully experience some of the realities of being a child during the Second World War.

The adult and family programme centres around the regular Open Day events at the Centre on the last Sunday of every month (except December) and pre-booked private group visits for party bookings. There are lots of hands-on activities for the whole family to enjoy. We offer education, nostalgia and fun!

Big or small, young or old we cater to all - whether you're looking for a trip down memory lane; to experience parents or grandparents stories of their life during the war; or to learn about an important part of our country's history in a fun, hands on way.

The play area is quite well arranged, but staff are a little short on the ground and mainly occupied with the cafe, which does reasonable food. some of the equipment could be maintained a little more often as the air guns do not work very well. The animal farm area is quite well maintained and the exotic Animal shows are quite entertaining. The Fortys Experience is well worth a visit, and much attention to detail has been taken to cover most if not all aspects of the War Experience-very interesting for children following the school curriculum.

I used to go to the camp during Easter, Summer and possibly Winter as a child I learnt how to horse ride, built dens in the woods, and went to the indoor soft play area when it first opened I have got so many good memories of this place but I took the boys I look after to the soft indoor play area about 1-2 years ago and it brought back many happy and very good memories its amazing though to see the camp is still running all these years later I went many times a year from about 1997-2000 If any parents needs an amazing, trustworthy and fantastic summer camp I really recommend it but you will not regret it the stables ended up getting knocked down which was a shame but I will forever remember the summer camp and the staff & one member of staff I noticed worked in Costco in Watford so it was amazing to see her shame I didn't speak to her though
