This place is not my normal choice for a place to eat. On the surface it appears to me that the Keys is pretending to be something it's not. Like you walk in and you can see fine furniture, very smartly dressed floor walkers (servers) and a small sign on a pedestal that says "please wait to be seated" after waiting, then being told to pick any table (really?) We got handed a breakfast menu. This was fine but the people I was with wanted lunch. Never mind. Instead of make a fuss we had some food which I cannot knock in any way at all.
So the place looks posh, acts posh and delivers great food. But the service is slow, one member of staff focused more attention on one table than another because her friends were sat there. The manager was having a business meeting on the table adjacent to ours instead of in an office! This place is nice but don't let the looks fool you... it's a pub that serves nice food. The institute, I don't know but I reckon the same without the furniture and understanding of the word pub.

Had a lovely breakfast, great food,great service Best music in town. Lovely breakfast and friendly staff. Very good value for money nice place with a good ambience. Love my visits here. Always pretty busy which is always a good sign.

Feel like I’ve been shafted!
I normally eat in the Yarm keys which is excellent 10/10.
Thought I’d try the one in Darlington for a change. I ordered a steak burger,  which I’d assumed would be a nice bit of steak as it was the same price as the sirloin. What I received was a very greasy burger. The very nice waitress explained that it was minced steak. Shame the menu didn’t say it was minced. Not even offered a discount

Good deal on some of the best cocktails in town! 2 for 1 after 6PM if you buy two of the same cocktails so ended up with 4 cocktails for just over a tenner. Can't go wrong! Lovely staff. Fab drinks.
