The Jolly Butchers

About

An independently run free house serving real ales and ciders from small independent breweries and orchards plus the best from Belgian and German brewers. We pair all this with fantastic pub food. It is like a beer festival every night!

Products

We serve various local ales from independent breweries such as Thornbridge and Dark Star. We are proud to serve the best from local breweries such as Brodies, Redemption, Camden Town, Meantime and The Kernel. We have a wide rane of bottled beers from Delerium Tremens to Goose Island 312. We have Mort Subite Kreik Cherry beer and probably the first Vedett Pils or Chimay Triple on tap.

I've been here on a few occasions, both just for drinks and to eat as well. The tap selection they have is great, with some regulars and a few rotating ones. There's always something interesting to drink. The food is delicious. I'm surprised that more pubs aren't doing Indian food. I've had the duck kathi roll a couple of times, which is probably my favorite. We ordered the ribs last time, which were well seasoned and fall off the bone. Service is always very friendly, the prices reasonable, and just a nice and relaxed vibe. If I lived closer this would be my local.
"Posh", authentic Indian food at a reasonable price, wide range of beers on tap and a relaxed friendly atmosphere... what's not to love? Having lived in the area for a while now, we walked past The Jolly Butchers a few times and had entirely the wrong impression from the outside. Wish we'd discovered it sooner! Super casual spot with delicious Indian food. We ordered the butter chicken, some naan, rice and onion bhaji which was all excellent but the salmon was stand out! ... dog friendly too!
As soon as we walked in we were greeted with such a lush smell - a smokey, seasoned tandoori/ BBQ type smell. It made us even more excited for our Sunday roast. I was torn between regular half chicken, the pork loin or the tandoori chicken roast. In the end, after a chat with our waiter, I went for the tandoori chicken roast. He said it was the most popular choice, also I thought I might as well - it’s not the usual thing to have with a Sunday roast, might as well make the most of it. I did not regret it. Everything was great. Very tasty. It arrived quickly. The portion size was generous. We defo enjoyed our meal! My highlights were the chicken, the cauliflower cheese and the rich gravy. Even our Aperol spritzes were well made. The pub was spacious, high ceilings, gorgeous windows. A really nice space on the high street. The only thing that could’ve made it better was if the front door wasn’t left open, the cold breeze meant we ate with our jackets on. We’ll defo go back again, but in the summer!
Solid Indian street food, great selection of beers and cider. Really enjoyed Food: 4/5
Came here for a highly recommended Sunday roast and wasn’t disappointed. Quick service, great selection and tasty food. Atmosphere was lively and the portions were a good size too - lots of food without being obscene. Will be back!Food: 5/5
Very busy but efficiently run, wasn't blown away by the food but will come back for the Indian options next time: the Sunday roast was good though: Wellington was underwhelming but the tandoori chicken has to be tried: it was decent!Food: 5/5
Spacious pub with tall ceilings. A relaxed, young vibe, as demonstrated by the bar staff. Great selection of beers and the standard bar spirits but no cocktails on offer. The Indian food menu was an unexpected surprise and generally quite tasty, albeit a bit expensive for the portion sizes. Would recommend the duck wrap, lamb chops and chicken curry. Chicken wings were a little bland.
Used to be one of my favourite pubs in London but the beer selection on my last few visits hasn't been as good as it used to be. The Axe round the corner is better in that respect. Indian food however was excellent and staff were friendly.Food: 5/5
I would to give this 4/5 stars as the food was amazing but my partner and I had an awful customer service experience with a young staff member at the bar. I will start by saying that every other member of staff in there was actually super nice. But unfortunately you are only as strong as your weakest link. We’ve all been there right, young and working a bar job or in retail. I always make a point of being super nice and patient with people in service or retail as I did it for a long time. I know it can be. But being this rude to someone is not called for, I don’t take it lightly. I ordered 1 of every dish on the menu it was our work social and there were more of us in our group than dishes on the menu it turned out to be a great amount of food — which tasted great, the chefs nailed it. After seeing other people eating and the size of their dishes this seemed like a very appropriate thing to do. He made it seem like what I’d asked for was the most ridiculous thing he’d heard — The staff member quick blinked in shock and responded in such an incredibly rude manner. I also ordered probably too much bread and I asked it that was too much, he made some quick remark that if I’d read the menu properly that some dishes come with bread. The way he did it was so rude. After a super awkward and slightly tense exchange we reduced it, I was honestly gob smacked. That’s your job! To help customers with their orders and questions! Why be so rude! I’ve never eaten here before, I don’t know how big your portions are, that why I asked. I then paid, and he almost snatched the card machine from my hand. As I said, the other staff were great. The food was great. But if this guy worked for me and it was negatively impacting customers then it would be a pretty clear choice of what to do about it. Unfortunately never going to go here again.
Stopped for food and a drink. Very good Indian dishes. The lamb chops were amazing!! Nice looking bar. Pews look great, but rather uncomfortable. Lovely bartender. Unfortunate smell of dirty mop throughout the venue which was a shameFood: 5/5
