For a chain pub with bought in food we were very impressed. The chicken and ham pie was fully packed. The sea bass on roasted veg was amazing.nGood portion size, well presented and very tasty.
Went on a weekday for their fixed price lunch menu which is excellent value for three courses.nnFirstly, I'd say that their carpark system is very complicated and yes, I'm of the smartphone generation. The instructions are just not clear at all. In the end we managed it and you get the £5 back if you eat there. We saw another customer struggling for some time. I think they need to think of those customers who might struggle with the tiny and convoluted instructions. Confusingly there's also a registration notice at the entrance to the bar which is a separate entrance from the hotel but that's only for overnight guests.nnThe place was exceptionally busy and I think the serving staff coped well. The menu advertised a starter with a soft poached egg, it is not and I saw other people with it the same, one customer sent hers back. It was well-cooked and I think it must be those pre-prepared poached eggs. That's down to JW Lees who run these places. Personally, I wouldn't offer a dish with a soft poached egg if it can't be delivered. The prawn & avocado starter was good. Main course was good but my steak was a little bloody but I didn't send it back as it was so busy. Always hard to get steaks spot on. It tasted good though and was tender. Dessert was the star for both of us. The crumble came with custard and ice-cream and the pineapple fritters were generous.nnI thought drinks were reasonable value given that drinks in the UK are terribly expensive.nnService was efficient and well organised but they were very busy, so I don't think they had time for anything apart from the job. I would say they could have done with an extra staff member front of house.nnYes, I would go back but I would perhaps choose different dishes. The fixed menu is a great price.
I ate in the restaurant last Wednesday, then in the Inn at the bay on Thursday and Friday; a couple of the days we had a pint in the beer garden.nnFirstly, the staff here are outstanding, from the bar staff to the waiting staff including a brilliant host who I think was called Isabella they were really incredible. Super friendly and helpful; they alone are a reason to come back.nnThe food is fantastic, across the restaurant and the inn, it's not your average chain food, it's actually really bloody good. The prix fixe menu across the days it's available is very good value for money.nnThe beer is great, especially in the inn and the pub area - top notch pints.nnTo sum it up, I would come back to the area just to come here!
Ate here for lunch and after eating at the hotels other restaurant we did not have high expectations. Ordered the beef brisket with potato hash, fishcakes and a portion of chips as they were out of rarebit the beef hardly had any beef and was mainly potato and came in a pool of gravy - overall lacked any flavour whilst the fishcakes were a pleasant surprise with nice sauce. The staff were pretty inattentive and we had to chase down for our bill. Decor was awful, very weird and not much care taken. Also had a few drinks at this bar in the evenings and the staff seem to make up prices as they go along as dispite ordering the same drinks it came to various prices and at one point £17 for two drinks and after questioning it they did not do much about it or seem to care so we decided not to drink here again.
The Inn at the Bay was great. The carpark is another story! Took almost 15 minutes to get a parking ticket never did get one, a lovely lady from behind the bar finally managed to book my car in. Parking ticket machines are a nightmare.
