The Hopping Hare

About

Booking a table is advisable for our busy times (dinner & special events). To book, please call us on 01604 580090.

Story

When my family bought the Hopping Hare in 2006 our aim was to create an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life somewhere just a bit different.

A place to dine, stay or meet up and relax with friends, family or colleagues. We didn't want it to be stuffy, intimidating or over the top. We set about creating luxurious rooms, a subtle, sophisticated bar with a great selection of quality drinks and a restaurant offering some of the best food to be found in Northampton.

~~~Dine~~~
The quality of our food is really important to us.
That's why everything is prepared from the finest ingredients, the freshest produce and the very best meat and fish. Our head chef has hand picked suppliers who support our food ethos and knows where the meat is reared, how the fish is caught and where the vegetables have been grown. We source locally as much as possible.
Our Menus are updated regularly offering slowly braised, heart-warming comfort food when it's chilly outside, and lighter, pan-fried dishes with tender fresh vegetable and salads during the summer months. We offer chef specials every day, while Sunday's menu offers you a choice of Great British roasts with all the trimmings.
It's always advisable to book to ensure a place in our relaxed conservatory restaurant.
Table service is also available in the contemporary dining room with its more casual atmosphere.
When the temperatures dip outside, we get the log fires burning to create a warm welcome, while in summer the sun streams through the open doors to reveal a large decked area that's perfect for outdoor days and balmy evenings.
The contemporary dining room area is cleverly zoned by interior design to accommodate groups of all sizes. There are perfect spots for business people, backed up by free WiFi throughout the building. You will also find quiet, intimate corners for couples, fireside sofas and seating clusters for small groups as well as semi-formal table arrangements. We provide newspapers every day.
Our bar staff know a thing or two about serving the perfect drink for all occasions. A range of super chilled lagers sit happily alongside cask ales - all kept in tip-top condition by our cellar manager. A well balanced wine list includes something for all tastes and is available by the glass or the bottle, and there's an extremely well stocked spirits range. Soft drinks & freshly brewed teas or coffee are available at all times.
For very special occasions we stock a range of champagnes.
~~~Accommodation~~~

The ultimate in affordable comfort, style and guest facilities, the luxurious en suite rooms at the Hopping Hare Hotel in Northampton have made us the place of choice for regular business guests during the week, while our weekend 'dine and stay' packages are perfect for a short break.

After checking in, head to your room and you'll find a calm, fresh place to unwind with a comfortable bed and bathroom with either dual-head power shower or bath with shower. There's a choice of 19 rooms with single, double or king size beds, and extra provision can be made for families who would like their children to share.

There's also a ground floor en suite with a wet room, wider doors, choice of single or king-sized bed configuration, that is well tailored for guests with mobility support needs.

If there's something else that will make your stay extra special, champagne, flowers or chocolates can be arranged for your arrival. Again, please discuss your requirements when you book.

We're just two miles from Northampton station and the town centre, yet we're close enough to the countryside for most of Northamptonshire's attractions to be within easy reach. Road links are good, and there's plenty of parking.

~~~Celebrations & functions~~~
We've been proud to play a role in organising all sorts of functions and occasions. Celebrating a marriage, marking a milestone birthday, welcoming a new baby after a Christening or naming ceremony, putting the final seal on a business deal, or recognising excellent work results, groups with all kinds of reasons to get together have chosen the Hopping Hare for their important event.
We'll find you the perfect spot, whether it's a cosy corner for two or a large spacious area for a bigger group. Parties of up to 30 can have a large table set up that's just right for their needs in the conservatory restaurant area. Bigger groups can have exclusive use of the conservatory by arrangement.
We pull out all the stops to help you put together a package to suit your occasion and your budget and we will be delighted to create a bespoke menu just for you if you would like something a little bit different.
My wife and I stayed overnight at the Hopping Hare at the beginning of January for my birthday. We had a fantastic experience, the hotel is very clean, the staff were really friendly and helpful and gave us a drink on the house to celebrate my birthday which was a really nice touch. We had dinner in the evening and the food was outstanding! Compliments to a very talented chef. This was the most amazing food that I have eaten in a long time. An incredibly tasty meal with excellent presentation which was a culinary delight. I would highly recommend and will definitely be returning!
I'm going to be honest, this review has given me a problem, because I really want to give this establishment a wholehearted 5 rating, but I can't. The chef is clearly a very talented chef, everything was cooked to perfection. The dishes were presented superbly and I'd already eaten them with my eyes before a morsel had touched my tongue. The service is sublime, the staff are always at hand when you need them, but aren't hovering, which is a difficult balance to achieve. The prices a perfectly acceptable for this quality of food and service. My partner had the goats cheese starter, butternut risotto & sorbets for dessert all of which were excellent. I had the pigeon breast, followed by the beef sirloin and crumble to finish. So, you maybe asking if all this was the way it was, why isn't it 5 stars? Well unfortunately, the pigeon breast, although superbly cooked, lacked the gamey depth of flavour I associate with pigeon. It was quite flavourless, which being the hero of the starter, it shouldn't have been, hence for me personally, it wasn't a 5 star experience. If I could give them 4.5 stars I would. We will certainly be back and I wholeheartedly recommend The Hopping Hare to anyone who want a fantastic meal. Oh, the crumble topping has to be tried to be believed, absolutely fantastic!
Popped in for a quick lunch with a friend, not been for a few years so I had my fingers crossed, but i was not disappointed. Warm friendly service from the staff, great food and a fabulous pub. If you are in the area the Hopping Hare is well worth a visit. Very upmarket pub and restaurant, and they really have the customer service and the food to make this a great place for a light lunch, a quick drink or a posh dinner out.
We visited for the first time on Monday evening Aug 1st - the food was actually pretty good, but the general service was woeful. Drinks orders took a good while, we got our first ordered drinks 45 minutes after arriving, clear lack of urgency or attentiveness. As expressed, food was generally pretty good, just a shame the staff seemed quite unengaged - they did seem short staffed given the number of diners/covers. Service certainly took the edge off what should have been a decent birthday meal.
We have just returned from a three night stay at The Hopping Hare and it was just fantastic. Our room 12 was just perfect, lovely decor and spotlessly clean. A lovely selection of teas, coffees and hot chocolate along with a fresh bottle of water and biscuits every day was a really welcome touch. And the breakfasts….just gorgeous. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a stay here. If I ever go back to Northampton again, I won’t even be looking for anywhere else to stay, it will be here! Long long time since I came here and the standard of food has not diminished. Our regular Ladies night out, one with GF allergy and we had the best food experience in a while. Staff were accommodating and friendly, service was excellent.Food: 5/5
Family of twelve which can lead to problems but didn't we were served promptly and efficiently and all enjoyed out meals very much. Lovely desserts to finish off too. Highly recommend!
Stop over for nephews 21st down the road. I have not been here for years as I moved away but an amazing clean place. Rooms emaculate and staff very polite and friendly. Will certainly be staying again when next out this way. 5 stars for all.Food: 5/5
Food is on a different level to other places. Group of 5, 3 course meal and clear plates all around. Staff really friendly, no pressure and all happy to help. Would recommend highlyFood: 5/5
Mixed review, we stayed last night. The barmaids were lovely had a nice evening here. The room looked great and a great size. However then we had the worst night sleep, the mattress was horrendous! Woke up with a sore back after having springs dig into me all night and kept waking me up to find a new position to try and avoid them, my partner said his side just felt like a big ditch and kept waking him up too. Both felt extremely tired this morning. Breakfast was nice though. Did tell the what I believe was manager about the mattress and rather than getting an apology he just said but it's a new mattress. Felt like he was accusing of us as lying although I am pretty sure the bags under our eyes was enough evidence! Wasn't expecting any compensation but good customer service and an apology would have been appreciated.
