The Grosvenor Cinema
"Exactly 100 years after it first opened its doors to the public, Glasgow’s oldest cinema is getting set for curtains up again following a significant refurbishment.A luxury take on a big screen experience, expect sumptuous claret leather armchair seats, nestled between individual tables and classic empire lamps. All seats benefit from their own power and USB points. Go all out and opt for one of our sofas, and enjoy an elevated view and a larger table. Don’t forget to look up, where you will find a painstaking restoration of the old cinema’s elaborate ceiling and cornice detail."

First time here. Lovely place, looks excellent, service is good. Food behind the counter does the job, was expecting better hotdogs for the £10 deal, considering you can get them in petrol stations for £2.50-3.00. Seats are very comfy, although be warned, these seats are literal whoopie cushions, i love it. One minor thing, the noise. Sure i heard a full Calvin harris set watching smile 2, not complaining as its a crappy horror film, however if it was a decent and dialogue heavy film i would probably get a bit annoyed. This showing also had a few people talking throughout, maybe something the cinema can improve on is staff checking the showings. Nice vibe, lovely cinema, will be back.
Great venue but skip the sofa! Saw Coraline and booked the sofa seats because they sounded premium but the regular seats are way better and more comfortable. Staff was awesome and found us two regular seats but probably would have left otherwise.
Beautiful small cinema with two screens. Looks really old fashioned from the outside then when you step inside the building it feels a bit industrial… We were in Screen 1 where the seating seemed to be all individual leather seats, grouped in two’s with a small table and lamp in between. Seats we’re really comfy, screen was a reasonable size for the room and both picture and sound were excellent. The only downside for us was road closures in the surrounding streets on the day we visited which made it impossible to park near to the cinema. Would definitely recommend though as we really enjoyed our visit.
I used to go to the Grosvenor Cinema with my Mum as a kid. It's been 30-odd years since I went last, and I took my wife with me to share in the experience on Friday night. The staff were lovely and very helpful when I wanted to change my seats. I'd booked the sofa in Screen 2 and realised quickly that I'd made a mistake. They were very kind and moved me to two separate seats far closer to the screen. That being said, I have to admit I didn't enjoy the experience of being in the film at all. The Grosvenor is a licensed cinema, something that I didn't realise extended to being able to leave the film, go to the bar, and then come back as other people did frequently throughout. It didn't seem to be policed in any way. Intoxicated people and proper cinema etiquette do not mix. The girl in the row behind me was so drunk she was giving an audible commentary the whole time, and the two guys in front were drunk, sniggering to each other, and vaping. All in all it was a terrible experience, and with the tickets not being exactly cheap, I was really disappointed. I won't go back.
Really neat venue, but the customer service was less than stellar. We went to the Friday the 13th showing of Kill and started out on a poor note with the blonde woman who was working the counter. Also, the pre-packaged food didn’t match the character of the bar + theater and was rather expensive for what it was. I really enjoyed the showing itself and will be back again! Just hoping for better customer service next time.
We haven’t been for years due to Covid and refurb. My hubby has a Gluten allergy Coeliac. The guy at the till could not have been more genuine with our request of info on the house nachos and did his best to help, but at the end if the day this place has 0 quick info for staff on allergens,he went to check, but couldn’t find any, with a queue building we left it. The staff member was very helpful but the info he needed wasn’t available and he would have needed a manager, this is the fault of the venue. Lucky they got 4,they need to pick up on this now ! Haven’t they heard of Glass Onion app????
This was hands down the BEST cinema visit I’ve ever, ever had. The place is just the most magnificently intimate place. We got our popcorn and drinks and sunk into the massive seats and watched The Shining. I couldn’t recommend this place any higher. If you’re in the West End of Glasgow this place is a must visit location. 11/10.
Great theatre, great staff. Next to a terrible bar called the garden staff and drinks over priced. The staff in the garden bar, had no clue avoiding at cost. It was also over priced.the The Grosvenor Theatre was fantastic
I’m afraid I agree with the previous reviewer Alexandros! Positives: the renovations are amazing, the cinema looks tremendous! Also the breaking in of the new leather seats and their fart noises made me laugh. I also have fond memories of visiting here on school trips! Negatives: quiet moments in the film, you could hear the music from the bar Screen1. Not the cinema’s fault, but one couple in our row got up 7 times between them for drinks and unapologetically trampled one lady’s bags which is in-keeping with the previous reviewer’s entitled hipsters comment probably due to the proximity to Ashton lane. No hate intended, just my opinion! Sadly won’t be back.
Me and my sons had an amazing experience this morning, we went to see Mario and were early to arrive but the lovely girl Emily on the counter was so lovely and and let us sit inside while we waited the customer service and atmosphere in this place is amazing its so authentic and quirky I've already recommended it to everyone and cannot wait to return, also its quieter in the morning so if you want a quiet screening or have children with ASN this would be the perfect time to visit and lastly the price of food and popcorn drink etc is very good and not over priced thanks for an amazing experience and thanks to Emily she is a credit to the place so pleasant and helpful
