First time visiting this pub and it was amazing. Service was fantastic and they were very attentive. Me and my partner shared the beef roast dinner platter and its probably one of the best pub roast dinners I've ever had. Worth every penny !
We have just had a superb early Sunday dinner. My roast pork was really delicious. The others had the vegetarian and vegan dishes which they raved about. Great service and a lovely atmosphere made it a wonderful end to a wonderful day at Kew Gardens.Recommended dishesLamb Sharing Board, Yorkshire Pudding, Cauliflower Cheese, Vegetarian Roast, Fish and Chips
A quick visit so did not eat at The Greyhound. Had a pint of cider which was very nice. Pub was clean, staff welcoming and a good selection of drinks. Would definitely return if in the area again and try the food . Wheelchair accessibility: The entrance was level with street access
Ate here twice for lunch while researching at The National Archives. Both times staff were very friendly and responsive…much more so than most other pubs. On my last visit I enjoyed the 7 pound lunch option of mushroom spaghetti . Nice indoor and outdoor areas.
A wonderful find for lunch. We had the most delicious rib eye steak. Cooked to perfection. It’s the best steak that we have tasted in a long time. Definitely worth a visit.
Last year we were raving about this pub due to the lovely food and garden. We came back a couple of times this year and found that the quality had gone down, whilst some of the dishes were far too small. Today was the last straw. First up, the vegetarian falafel roast. This was passable but last year it was brilliant. The roast potatoes were undercooked and there were only two of them, whilst I couldn't taste any cheese in the cauliflower cheese. But the nut roast veggie version, not vegan was the real showstopper. Everything was boiled. Maybe call it a nut boiled in that case? It was apparently boiled because the standard roasts were cooked in goose fat. OK but you can still roast in oil. And my vegetarian roast still had the roast potatoes, so I guess it wasn't vegetarian after all? The nut roast was incredibly bland with no flavour whatsoever, it tasted like something you'd feed a dog. Disappointed that our local has gone so far downhill.
They have the audacity to call this a pie. It looked and tasted more like a starter. Don't even get me staterted on the price. The cost of living is hitting us all and when I go out to eat I expect value. The drinks were poured generously and the only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1. Slow service and it took 45 mins to bring the food to the table
Shocking from start to finish - firstly we chose the place because of the menu, arrived to find a very small limited available amount of items - when questioned if this was the only menu they said yeah sorry! No explanation before or why it was reduced. Service is good at the start then they forget about you, we ordered drinks which came promptly but then we ordered food from the limited menu. 3 Wagyu Beef burgers, 3 “Vegan” bean burgers see pics attached 2 of us being vegan and 2 vegetarian it was the only option anyway. Imagine our surprise when these vegan burgers arranged - all with bacon and cheese and one even with extra bacon and cheese!!!!! When we questioned the waitress she really couldn’t understand what the problem was and told us that was how it comes!!!! When she eventually got a senior person involved they explained vegan to her and she rolled her eyes and took the food away - no apology - we then waited a further 45 mins for the new burgers to arrive. The beef burgers were swimming in grease and juice from the pickles but had a good flavour. The greatly anticipated bean burgers when they finally arrived had some apparent smashed avocado, which must have been half an avocado thinly spread amongst 3 burgers and almost non existent. The salsa was fairly laughable, when we asked the same waitress where it was she pointed us towards a 5 pence piece worth of red sauce that was on the base of the burgers, take a look at the pictures and you just might spot it, she advised us that salsa her definition and explanation to us is basically Tabasco sauce if we didn’t understand and as it’s so hot they didn’t put much on at all because nobody likes it - we asked for some more to give a bit of flavour to the dry patty, and she again explained that it’s simply Tabasco and too hot to eat a lot, again we asked for more to give flavour, 30 minutes later and after asking 2 more people she brought us back a tiny portion of what we believe to have been sweet chilli sauce mixed with Tabasco and tasting very cheap - enough for 1 person between the three. We asked for mayonnaise for the overcooked fries and they brought us something that tasted of sour cream at its best. We politely declined desserts and requested the bill in the hope that a small apology or token gesture would be offered for the shocking experience and service but instead we waited for 35 more minutes and then was presented with full bill including service charge. Not wanting to stay any longer we paid and left promising to never return and we advise that you don’t bother either - disgraceful in the current climate
Service could definitely do with improving, especially from the bar. The manager was excellent but other staff just need a bit more training. Ordered an Affagato and it never appeared. The food arrived before drinks. We had to ask for a drink that we could see sitting on the bar for over 5 minutes. Would definitely come back again, but would like to see the service improved. I would recommend the pork roast.
I felt urged to write and explain my experience of Christmas Day. We arrived early with my son and 90 year old mother. We were going to be seated in the corner in the back of the pub, which felt extremely claustrophobic. I feel there shouldn’t actually be a table in that dark corner. I was told our table was arranged for upstairs but unfortunately my mother could not go up the stairs. We choose to sit in the garden area which had a heater above the table and blankets. Initially it was fine to sit there but eating my Christmas lunch with my coat on wasn’t really what I had planned, I was hoping I’d be sitting in a cosy area with a fireplace! People kept going outside the back doors to smoke and leaving the door open so cold air was constantly coming in, my legs were extremely cold! The smell of smoke was also not very nice! The Christmas lunch itself was really nothing special cooked by someone who does not understand what a traditional roast should be. There was no bread sauce, cranberry sauce, the vegetables were over cooked and the nut roast tasted like baked beans and sweet! For £95 per head this really was not what I expected. There were many pubs I could have chosen to go to, The Greyhound was recommended by my son who has visited twice. We live in North London so had to travel far. The only nice thing about our lunch was that as a family we were together. Many thanks for your service. Vegetarian options: Nutroast tasted of baked beans was was sweet!
