The Golden Cross

About

. . . so much more than a back street pub . . .

Story

In the shadow of the parish church tower and just a short stroll from Cirencester’s historic market place, The Golden Cross Inn offers a warm welcome to all, from visitors seeking a satisfying pint of ale to discerning diners searching out contemporary British cuisine, and of course to those weary travellers looking for a clean and comfortable night’s rest.

While the Inn itself dates from the mid-17th Century, The Golden Cross of today has become well known as a welcoming hostelry offering high levels of service, great contemporary food, good company and comfortable, flexible and well-equipped bedrooms and suites, including a family apartment.

Its central location makes The Golden Cross an ideal base for exploring Cirencester's historic back streets with their eclectic boutiques, galleries, coffee shops and more, while the award-winning Corinium Museum is situated just a stone's throw from our front door.

The Golden Cross Inn is also renowned for its excellent pub food, with the dining room offering some of the best contemporary British cooking in the Cotswolds. Add a convivial bar with real ales, a wide-ranging wine list and a great selection of single malt whiskies, and we think you’ve found the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the magic of Cirencester and the Cotswolds.

S L E E P!
The Golden Cross Inn continues the centuries-old tradition of
English inns in offering a hearty meal and a good night’s sleep
for a reasonable price. All our rooms are contemporary in decor
and furnishing while retaining the traditional features of the original coaching inn. En-suite facilities are of a high standard and comprise shower, basin and w/c in all rooms, also a bath tub in the family suite, and all feature flat-screen LCD television, DVD player, tea
and coffee making facilities and local information packs.

At the Golden Cross Inn we’re proud to offer some of the finest
pub dining in Cirencester and its environs, prepared by our dedicated and professional kitchen crew. Our breakfasts are second to none and are sure to set you up for the day, while the pub's lunch and dinner menus offer fine food in an informal dining environment. Larger parties can be catered for in our function room at the rear of the property, and in the summer the garden beckons as an ideal venue for an al fresco lunch, barbecue or early supper.

D R I N K!
In addition to its convivial bar and lounge The Golden Cross Inn
has a cellar to be proud of, for its real ales and its extensive
wine list. The Arkell’s pub offers three traditionally-brewed real ales on tap at all times. The wide-ranging wine list is mostly available by the glass, and the bar offers one of the widest selections of single malt whiskies in town. Add to this a beer garden that doubles as a sun trap and a great town-center location and you’ve found perhaps the finest watering place in the Cotswolds.

Nice looking gastro pub complete with a dog or three belonging to the owner/manager. Good looking food and a reasonable selection of beers. Certainly a pleasant place to meet and sit. Staff efficient and friendly. Clearly an old building but sadly few features left inside. Still, it is stylish and spacious.

Dined here recently for the first time in a long time, despite being local, and can honestly say we were most pleasantly surprised. The service was very good, but the food was absolutely outstanding; great choice on the menu, generous portions, the most incredible tartar sauce, and of the four of us dining every course was thoroughly enjoyed. Can't wait to return.

Close to where I live, dropped in for food on a Thursday evening. Drinkers at the bar and two couples eating in the dining area. Quiet. Ordered a steak/ chips which was rather more rare than the medium I ordered. Food over all not bad. Two small dashounds begging from diners might put some off. One of them having a pee on the carpet in front of my table did rather test my tolerance. I probably will give it another chance but on this visit my summary is 3 star pub with ok food.
