The Gilchrist Postgraduate Club

About

The Gilchrist Postgraduate Club is a social and study hub for postgraduate students and staff of the University of Glasgow, offering a comfortable and friendly environment for postgrads and staff to interact with one another.

Story

The club has both social and study spaces, with a bar area, individual study booths and a seminar room. The seminar room, which is available to be booked in advance, will give postgraduates the use of the space for seminars, meetings, presentations, workshops, film screenings and much, much more. Capacity is about 60 seminar style.

Mission

The Gilchrist Postgraduate Club aims to be the place for all all postgraduates to go, whether it is to socialise over a coffee or a beer, prepare with friends before a seminar or just to study. The club was named after Marion Gilchrist, the first female graduate of the University of Glasgow, and the first women to obtain a medical degree in Scotland. In recognition of her accolade, the club hopes to bring together postgraduates from all schools and all backgrounds, creating a cross-college mix in which postgraduates can learn from one another.

Products

Barista style coffee and tea, bottle beers, wines and spirits and a selection of sandwiches, paninis, wraps and salads, as well as home baking and fresh fruit.

Lovely place to sit and have coffee but relatively quite pricey especially for a student environment.Atmosphere: 5/5
Best place for coffee and decent range of liquors if you feel like it in the UofG premises. It's a shame the paninis are no longer what it used to be which was so good! Can get very crowded at times.
Fun little cafe on University of Glasgow campus. Fabulous coffee, hot drinks, beers, wines and snacks. All fitting in a student budget!Food: 5/5
Excellent value lunch, had the Lentil soup, delicious. Staff are very friendly.
The Gilchrist is a cozy cafe that's perfect for a quick lunch or catching up with friends or colleagues. They offer a great selection of food and drinks at an affordable price. The only downside is that the space is limited and it can be tough to find a seat during peak hours.
This is my go-to place to get food on campus. It's far less noisy than the Student's Union across the way, and has a nice relaxed vibe. Staff are friendly, and always make time to talk - and they seem quite happy in their job which is always nice to see. The usual mix of cold drinks, pre made sandwiches and a limited selection of hot food is available and all quite tasty. Space is quite limited, and the canteen portion seems to be lacking sanitation stations which is a bit concerning. Other than that, I quite enjoy having my lunch in the Gilchrist.
Okay little place for a coffee. It doesn't appear to care must about recycling as there was so much waste from our coffees and cake. Was cheap in price.Food: 2/5
The Gilchrist does what it does very well. The staff are friendly, the soup is a great deal and other cafeteria meals are available, and the coffee is great! It can be a bit crowded though, so expect to wait in line and share a table.
Excellent coffee and very reasonable prices. Wide range of preprepared sandwiches, heated sandwiches and soups. Fresh pastries and fresh fruit also available. Super space for meeting, studying or just relaxing.
Lovely. Hadn't been before. Didn't know it existed. Cosy colourful, warm friendly staff. Extra hot drinks as requested Food: 5/5
