Story

Welcome to The George Hotel. Set in the heart of Hatherleigh and within close distance of Dartmoor and the coast, The George offers an ideal place for stopping for a meal or resting overnight. With 13 rooms available all en-suite with a mix of modern and traditional surroundings we like to make sure our guests and customers are made to feel welcomed and comfortable. We have 3 superior rooms with 4 poster beds and roll top baths ideal for special occasions. Also we have 10 double rooms 5 of which can be converted to twin beds if necessary and 1 which is ground-floor, suitable for less able'd residents. There is a lift at the rear of the hotel in the car-park for wheelchair access into the hotel. All rooms have tea/coffee making facilities as well as bottled water and televisions. Downstairs is very open plan and spacious with the bar on one side and restaurant on the other. The bar plays host to our regular locals and the Tuesday market crowds. We have a function room available that is in use every Monday and Tuesday for the rotary club meetings and the Ukulele bashers practice rehearsals. We are dog friendly the only areas out of bounds are the restaurant and bedrooms, we even keep some treats for our 4 legged friends behind the bar. In the winter the hotel is kept warm by our open fires and log burner giving the hotel a very welcoming and cozy atmosphere. We offer a wide variety of choice on our menus, we also have a lunch-time special menu which is a set price of £5.95 offering good food at a good price. We also have our selection of home-made puddings should you have a sweet tooth. Sundays we hold a carvery which is very popular giving the choice of 3 meats and having your fill of vegetables and potatoes and home-made gravy. Later in the afternoon we hold the meat draw which offers the chance to win various joints of meat as well as sausages burgers etc by buying a strip of raffle tickets for £1.
