Westdown Farm, Wild Camping, Camping and Caravanning

About

Idyllic scenic working farmland situated in the heart of Devon, just a short distance from Dartmoor.

Story

Here at Westdown Farm we are set in 92 beautiful acres of unspoiled, working farmland in the idyllic countryside of West Devon.
This is an ideal place for the photographers and wildlife enthusiasts among you as we have over 30 species of butterfly recorded and our fields are rich in wild flowers and grasses.
Westdown Farm is also home to our pedigree herd of British Longhorn Cattle who manage the land by grazing and help maintain the diversity of the flora which consequently help the butterfly to thrive.
We are an off grid, ECO friendly camping ground, so we do not have electric hook-up. But, we do however charge up your batteries if they need charging!! (this is a free service).
We can cater for traditional campers and caravanners in our CL Campsite where you can enjoy waking up to a stunning view every morning. Alternatively you can enjoy 'Wild Camping' where you can get back to nature in our unspoiled areas.
Also we can cater for rallies/gatherings with your own separate area for privacy.
We are a dog friendly site but all dogs must be kept on leads to ensure the safety of other campers and of course the livestock that live on the farm. (Unfortunately we ensure a 'no dog's' policy with 'Wild Camping').

Such an awesome ECO campsite. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very relaxed and quiet location. Our dog loved it so much as it was super quiet with dogs where we stayed on the site. He had to be on a tether, but that wasn't an issue. Stacey is so efficient and always on hand. A really beautiful location on their family farm. Lovely addition of a fire pit and wood which was £5 each. Really helpful to have a fridge/freezer at the farm house especially for guests to use. The compostable toilets are amazing and really don't smell. It also gets reused on the farm. The shower block is powered by a solar panel. It was always very clean. Can't wait to go back
Spent 3 night there with kids. Very good place for grass camping or wild camping. Stacy, who is running around all the time, is good help who is available any time if needed. She really work hard to run this site. Best part of the camping was to see Richard for our kids. Richard, a environmentalist, with tons of knowledge of nature took our kids for free tour to the farm. Kids had chance to see fish, lamb, pony but didn't get chance to see big horn cow. It was sort of educational tour which kids enjoyed a lot. He explained how he is supporting nature. For him, protecting nature is first priority over money. Salute to him. We didn't know they sell locally produced meat and egg. We will happily buy from them next time. Please ask them what else they sell before buying any item from outside.
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay in the posh beds in shedz at Westdown Farm. Cosy, very comfortable and very peaceful being nestled in the trees between the fields. All amenities literally on my doorstep including composting toilet and solar powered shower. Lucky to just have the local wildlife for neighbours, deer, a buzzard, birds and more butterflies than you can count!
Stayed for two nights in our camper van Sept 2022. A very quiet site with good access off a decent road, the grass paddock does have a slight slop but with good flat areas so I didn’t need any wheel raisers. The facilities where very clean and spacious showers with contained shower and plenty of hot water. Will be stopping over again when back down that area.
Beautiful wild woodland camping available, nestled in a gorgeous part of the countryside. 15mins drive away from some amazing walks on Dartmoor. Owner was very welcoming and provided facilities were really clean. General waste and recycling bins available. As well as fresh drinking water and a composting loo. Thankyou
Brilliant bank holiday weekend at Westdown, such a chilled out place. Loved the eco showers and compost loos which were checked and cleaned several times a day so never a problem running out of essentials. Enjoyed being able to walk around the farm and be able to save our leftover food to feed the pigs and chickens. We enjoyed being able to sit outside in the evenings with a fire pit and just watch the stars. Stacey and Farmer Dick are so helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them they were great at giving us ideas of where to visit locally. Will definitely be visiting again
Had a fantastic time at this beautiful farm. Loved it from the moment we arrived. Our little one was able to feed a lamb which she hasn’t stopped talking about and to wake up with the cows and their calf’s in the next field looking at us very inquisitively was a delight. Had a look at the camping pods and will definitely book one for our next visit. Stacey explained the ethos of the farm and what they do there which was an inspiration. Can’t wait for our next visit X
Wonderful welcome, loads of space, perfect sunset, so peaceful and quiet. Dog-friendliness: My dog was welcome in the field and there's a dog exercising area at the front gate
Fabulous long weekend glamping at Westdown Farm. We were three couples staying in the posh bedz in shedz - the shedz are very comfortable with everything you could need provided. Great fire pit for the obligatory music quiz and toasting marshmallows. Easy access to Dartmoor with great walks.
Fantastic site, very well run, lovely people and clean amenities throughout. Enjoyed by all the family! Will definitely return
