The Fountain Inn

About

The Fountain Inn, Parkend, is an award winning village pub, offering real ales, excellent home-cooked food and good quality inn accommodation.

Story

Alan and Michelle welcome you to their award winning village inn. Built 250 years ago, it was extended to provide accommodation for travellers when the Severn and Wye Railway began operating passenger trains to Parkend in 1875. It is now the oldest surviving building in Parkend and the many photographs and artefacts which adorn our walls provide a fascinating insight into the history of village life.

Located close to the heart of the Forest, the inn makes an ideal base for sightseeing, mountain biking, or exploring some of the many peaceful forest walks nearby. The cycle centre is just a few miles away, while RSPB Nagshead and the northern terminus of the Dean Forest Steam Railway are both situated in the village itself.

All seven guest rooms (including one specially adapted for the less-able) are en-suite, tastefully decorated and furnished, and have television and tea/coffee making facilities.

Or, if you're just looking for a something to eat, come and choose from our extensive menu of homemade dishes. On Sundays, we also run a popular carvery from noon until 3pm.

A Lovely Pub with Excellent Food and a Warm WelcomenWe stayed at the charming Horse Jin Cottage, just a five minute walk from The Fountain Inn, and ended up visiting several times with our cockerpoo for evening drinks and dinner. Each visit was consistently enjoyable.nThe staff were attentive, friendly, and efficient, and the food arrived promptly. The overall atmosphere was relaxed and inviting — exactly what you want from a village pub.nThe food itself was excellent. The Sunday dinner was the standout favourite, closely followed by the steak and the Friday fish special. I genuinely found myself wishing we had booked an extra day just to enjoy another Sunday roast.nTip: The Fountain Inn is very popular, especially in the dog friendly section. I highly recommend booking in advance — particularly for Sunday dinner — to avoid disappointment
We stayed at the Whitemead Forest Park 23/01/2026. Decided to go to the pub for food and found this Inn. Staff friendly and welcoming on arrival. We didn't see the Rooms why no *s. Really good selection of drinks. We hadn't booked, but they managed to get us in, would recommend booking. We ordered our food and it came out lovely and hot, I had the Pork Medallions and was really lovely and asked for soft veg and got it, my partner had the Chicken Pie and said it was lovely also. Good variety menu, reasonably priced and definitely worth the money. Would recommend and go again
First time visiting this pub for a long time, we had a fantastic lunch , portions were a good size and price was competitive, and the biscoff brownie was heavenly. Good service, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Will definitely visit again.
We had a celebratory family dinner here and had such a lovely experience. Booking and arranging everything was easy, thanks to michelle. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, making everyone feel welcome. The food was great and the service was excellent throughout.
Fantastic stay, can’t wait to be back. Absolutely loved it here. The team was so welcoming and the food delicious we loved the beef stew dish and the pumpkin soup. Such a gorgeous cozy building with a very interesting history we did our best to read through the guides and books about stonemasonry and wall art. The wonderful thing was it was so very warm in the room, absolute heaven. Great bath and toiletries and really great breakfast. The location is just perfect if you’re looking to explore the Forest of Dean. We drove in and everything was really clear and helpful, great parking, and we got excellent advice on where to go within the Forest of Dean to make the most of it. Will definitely be back very soon. Just had a perfect weekend all around here, no notes. The ladies running the kitchen even remembered that we asked for ketchup during our first breakfast and brought it for our second one.
