We really liked our one night stay here.nIt's a really nice traditional old pub with lots of wonky beams and creaky floors. I spotted a 2-amp 3-pin socket. Who remembers those?!nOur room No. 4 was spacious, nicely decorated and warm double-glazed & efficient radiators. It lacked sockets by the bed, so no phone charging on the bedside table probably a good thing! but it made up for it in lots of small ways: an excellent range of coffee & teas for the Nespresso-style coffee-maker & kettle; plenty of shelf space in the bathroom; one of those plastic sucker mats for the bath so you don't slip in the shower old-fashioned but very practical; loads of mirrors the room must have been designed by a woman, said my partner; a colossal 3ft-diameter floor-standing fan in the cupboard for summer heatwaves; and, best of all, the most enormous fluffy white towels I've encountered for a long time!nFood & drink: It's worth booking for supper. We hadn't and were lucky to get a table. It was fully booked that night. We both had the Chicken Schnitzel. It was excellent, as were the staff, who couldn't be more helpful & friendly. Breakfast comes with the room. It's not an 'extra'. The 'Full English' is huge.nParking: The car park was full when we got there at 1800, but there's a street with unrestricted parking 200m away.
Second time visiting in 2 years and didn't disappoint either time. The members of staff we had serving us was fantastic!nnThe lamb rump tasted sensational with the swede and carrot mash! Would recommend thatnnThey also served a fairly large group of 15 of us in pretty decent time we had pre-ordered our food. Will happily go back again next time I am in the area!
Me and a friend decided to go for lunch for a Sunday treat. The service was incredibly slow took over an hour for our food to come we had ordered 2 pork roasts. Then waited even longer for our table to be cleared. We had planned on ordering a dessert however didn’t have enough time due to car park expiring.
Our visit today on 21st August at 1.15 for lunch was very disappointing. We live locally and have been there many times. It wasn’t that busy but after finding a table staff eventually came and took orders for drinks leaving menus Nothing arrived for almost 15 minutes and we were then told food would mean a 45 minute wait. We declined this and after a further 10 minutes we asked about the drinks we had asked for. These finally arrived after another short wait. Frankly it was unacceptable and I can’t imagine going back anytime soon.
We stopped into the Crown on our first evening for a weekend away in Framlingham after reviewing the online menu and seeing it catered for gluten free customers. However, upon arriving we were told that the online menu was out of date and that nothing available on the main menu was gluten free, or could be made gluten free, other than the steak. This was frustrating, but these things happen so it wasn’t the end of the world. My partner, being only gluten intolerant, and not coeliac, decided to go with the bangers and mash even though the sausages contained some gluten.nnThe 1 star review comes from the horrible treatment we received from the restaurant manager who refused to serve the sausages and mash to my partner as she had already enquired about the gluten free options previously. Despite my partner explaining calmly that it was fine, and that she was not coeliac, the restaurant manager became increasingly rude and patronising in response. Talking to my partner as if she were a naughty child. Of all the different restaurants we’ve been to in our time together, this was by far the worst experience we had ever had at a restaurant in terms of dietary requirements.nnThe restaurant manager came across as immature, out of her depth when it comes to customer service, and if I were the owner of the Crown I would seriously consider if I wanted someone like that running my restaurant.nnA horrible experience, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with dietary requirements.nnOne last thing I do think is important to note, is that our initial server was lovely, and he seemed quite stressed about the whole ordeal. None of this was his fault, and I felt sorry for him in the situation, and being frank sorry for the fact he has to work with that horrible restaurant manager every day.
