One of the better Wetherspoons around. Previously a Library, and a Courthouse before that going back to 1816, it still carries the themes from those and is well maintained inside. Lovely beer garden too. Usual vast selections of drinks at good prices, and ok pub grub. As expected, gets very busy on the weekend.
Looks can be deceiving, from the outside it looks like a small local pub, but once inside it's a large well maintained pub that has plenty of character about it's history as a library and courthouse. Good selection of food and drinks. Have eaten breakfast here a number of times and never disappoints. Service has always been friendly and prompt. Highly recommended. Car park is available around the back of the pub.
Went for breakfast. I wanted to try the American breakfast but they didn't have any pancakes. No big issue. Ordered the traditional breakfast. The food arrived pretty quickly but the taste was below average. The bacon had a slight burnt tatse to it which i quite enjoyed but i cant image many people enjoying it. The sausages tasted cheap but overall okay. The egg was good and the hasbrown was okayish. Howver; the beans are one of the worst i have ever tasted. I have no idea what was wrong with them. They were indelible. The interior to this place seems very very dated and the tables were rough and slightly stickyunderstandable from a pub. The staff are okay but tables can be hard to find at times.
Always enjoyed coming to this spoons. Have been quite disappointed in recent visits as it’s been really cold, due to the heating not being on . Also, think the rules regarding under 18’s not being on the premises after 9pm is a bit ridiculous! If that person is with family members parents etc think this should be revised . Fair enough I understand if it was a group of under 16’s but not when attending with parents
This is a very nice pub. It was warm, clean and the bar staff are focused on their job. I had the Turkey slice cooked meal, very nice. My food went well with the Old Peculiar I enjoyed.
It's a weatherspoons cheaper but is it value for money ?No it's not the food is simply dreadful the buttermilk chicken burger was all coating no chicken over fried with a tiny salad and 25 chips it's defying trade descriptions but it's cheap. The staff were shouting and arguing in the back especially the manager who needs a lesson in diplomacy when dealing with her staff. All in all avoid .
everytime I go in here the 1 manager is a nob thats the only way to describe him on more than one occasion I've had trouble with him. I went to the toilet came back and he had taken my drink another time ordered an all day brunch with scrambled egg was fine to order next thing I no he's come running over to me no can't do scrambled egg it's either fried or nothing. DO NOT COME TO THIS SPOONS IF THIS CERTAIN MANAGER IS HERE
We came with a large party - 40 or so - as we had business at the Council House over the road on the night of a by-election, arriving quite late after dark. We missed the unilluminated sign in a pokey corner of the car park which said that we have to sign in to avoid parking fees. The other sign, and the machine to sign in, is NOT at the entrance from the car park but rather tucked away at the end of the bar at the end by the pedestrian entrance onto the main road. We didn't see it. We got a parking ticket. So we went in the next day after receiving it and spoke to the on duty manager. They recognised us and agreed we had legitimately been there and promised us they would instruct the parking company to cancel the ticket. We were very happy. Until today, when out of the blue we received a summons to the Small Claims Court because the manager lied to us and did not cancel the ticket with the parking company. Suffice to say, neither us nor our group will be attending again.
Become a regular customer here after covid, seats well spaced, always good menu choices, bar service pretty quick with app orders
Me and my husband popped into the court of requests for breakfast when our world ended at the discovery that the cafe at sainsburys had closed down . We headed in expecting it to be quiet... it was not!!! We struggled to find a seat. When we did we placed an order for the large English breakfast each totally needed for pre festival prep we excepted there to be a delay in the food... how wrong could we be!!!! The food came out within 12 minutes and it was pipping hot and perfectly cooked. We forget the obligatory black pudding which I proceeded to order on the app and that turned up a couple of minutes later. Absolutely outstanding for a wetherspoon brekkie!! But in addition to the fantastic quality breakfast we were serviced I have to pass comment on the staff. They were working so hard and considering how busy the place was the tables were cleared promptly and wiped well. The did not stand still and as soon as the pass was ready to go they had the food out and on people's tables. Bravo!!! One of the best spoons we have been to!
