What a change in quality and comfort in this pub restaurant Tried for the first time today. The service from the barmaid to waitress was pleasant and polite. We ordered the black pudding scotch egg with a separate side order of chips and the fish finger sandwich with separate side salad. The presentation was superb and the food done with pride and precision. Good portions and pricing. But then I'd expect nothing less from the Chef who I discovered is the excellent Chris of Pier 51. The Copt hill have got a rare gem in the kitchen Top marks
Although we had quite a wait due to it being so busy and sadly some of the menu was not available we were still able to pick from the variety of dishes offered. The staff were attentive and dealt really well with issues experienced during our first visit. The food was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed by our group. We will definitely return to try more from the menu.
Three of us went for lunch yesterday, and we had a fantastic experience. The staff were professional and attentative, the food and plates was served hot and was delicious. We all had the Lamb Shank, after mussels starters, and sticky toffee pud for desert. The relaxed atmosphere was inviting and a very pleasurable way to spend a few hours on a mid week afternoon. 10/10 you guys!! Photo of my plate after the main Nothing left!!.
Went for a "Home Made" steak pie. Well, what a surprise I got when the dish finally arrived. This pie is not "home made", it looked like a shop bought pie out of tin foil. Ok, give it a try I thought, but when I cut into it and the base of the pie was hard. Clearly it had been microwaved as it had hard bits of steak in it too. Also, the veg was cold, not like warm but freezing cold. I eventually spoke to the staff who said ok I'll pass your comments to the chef, not even an offer to change the meal. Very dissatisfied and very disappointed with the quality and service. It's a shame as I live literally a 7 minute walk to the pub, but will I come back for food, no, will I come for a pint, not at their prices. Would I recommend the pub, sorry but no.
My family of 5 visited the newly refurbished Copt Hill for the first time at the weekend. We all ate different meals and thoroughly enjoyed everything. We had delicious Lamb Shank, fish and chips which was huge, Pork belly, Chicken burger and a selection of starters, which were all presented well. We were happy to wait for our beautifully freshly prepared meals, the service was excellent by everyone and we felt it had a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Well done to the owners who have provided a lovely place to eat in Houghton-le-Spring. We will definitely be back. Prices were just right, and we would all recommend highly.
Went for the steak night. Two steak meals and bottle of wine for £30. Despite it being a snowy horrible evening it was busy. The waiting staff took our order and explained there would be a 20 - 25 min wait for food this was 6.15pm. Fair enough, I would rather be told. Worth the wait. Beautiful steak, cooked the way I asked, plenty chunky chips. Came with a large flat mushroom, lambs lettuce and tomato. I ordered as an extra, peppercorn sauce which was delicious. We shared a pot - it was £3.95. Accompanied with a bottle of Pinot Grigio. I know, but I'm not keen on red. Not rushed to leave the table. Overall a very nice experience, the staff were attentive and friendly. Would recommend
Called in for Sunday lunch, told to wait in the bar for a table so got a drink then went back through to find loads of tables!! Once sat down we ordered beef but were served pork, my veg was under cooked ,staff constantly asking if everything was all right even after I had already spoke to someone I would think possibly their first jobs and were just keen to do well and yes we all have to learn the ropes. the place itself has just been done up and it looks lovely .nice and clean . I understand sometimes things don't always go to plan short staffed in the kitchen we were told so I would give it another try and hopefully it may get 5 stars I think it will be a lovely place to visit in the summer especially for the views.
Would go again. Food was topnotch & good size portions to. Very good quality. Been done out beautiful inside. Happy customer.
Just tried the new Poetic License Copt Hill for food and drinks. Lovely atmosphere and very enthusiastic young waiters and waitresses. The manageress was very accommodating and made sure we got a table. Food was really lovely and fast to arrive at table. Dessert was especially delicious. Will definitely be back again
Beautful venue and range of drinks. Asked numerous times before the rest of the table had arrived for food order. Felt rushed. However, food was delicious and fairly priced. Staff very friendly. Quality of food and presentation amazing! Service just needs tweaking for smoother/balanced service. Parking: Plenty of parking
