Great place for brunch. Food very tasty as all is fresh from their own farms. Very large dining area plenty of tables and chairs. Very clean and modern. Staff helpful and informative. Great place to stop for a break if on A12 just before Orwell Bridge if heading East.
#TheCookhouse Honestly the worst roast beef I have ever had. The beef was so chewy I had to spit it out. Asked the server to convey the information to the manager and chef - absolutely no response from either. Definitely won’t bother eating here again and definitely wouldn’t recommend it. Service not up to scratch either - had to try to get attention to get water and cutlery. Avoid!!
The venue is large and airy, brightly lit and very clean. The view is inspiring and frames the unique landscape with high windows to capture it all as the weather changes. The menu has a variety of styles and caters for vegans, I had the beef ragu with orzo pasta, it was fantastic, really tasty and filling. It was near capacity when we booked, and most seats were taken. It was not crowded or noisy and the service was prompt, we did not wait long - they seem to have a good understanding of the number of covers they do.
A generous 3 stars - good food but service was no where near as good/quite poor. Staff took phone booking well - polite and efficient. Arrived and waited for someone to check booking. ‘Host desk’ appeared to be a mixture of people paying and waiting for a table. This took about five minutes. Could this be looked at? Staff appeared inexperienced and lacked direction from any senior member of staff. Food choice taken, eventually after another menu being provided, and drinks came to the table. When food arrived, condiments were brought after we asked and were not offered by staff. Only time anyone came over was when we had finished which took quite a while. Bill paid at the table. Experience was lacking and was similar to before - good food but service was poor. It is a shame the service doesn’t reflect the good food quality and the views across the river. We probably won’t be returning again.
So you would expect a posh food hall to deliver on every aspect. Sadly not. Food is timely and delicious, well presented and good portions. Prices are representative to the quality and quantity so no complaints there. The service however is a letdown. I've been here to eat twice now and there has been no improvement at all. Slow to take orders, orders delivered incorrectly, no follow up on food, delays in returning for dessert orders or in today's case, not at all. Then delays in taking payment. Staff seem to wander round with a stare in their eye that they have no clue what to do, which tables are theirs to manage, what cutlery even is. It's not a difficult concept. Would recommend this venue if you want good food but have all day to spare. Ouch.
It has a lovely view over the Orwell River and is comfortable. However considering its seating capacity and the fact it was half empty we had to wait an hour for food then we had to ask for cutlery. All in all the service was quite poor
Brilliant service and great tasting food with a bonus of a lovely view on a bright winter day. One odd thing was the size of the plates compared to the amount of food, the food amount was plenty, but the plate was huge. No complaints and just the right place for a lazy day.Food: 5/5
As always, great service and delicious food
Disappointing! My parents took me here for my birthday surprise and we were all very excited before we arrived. However, sadly, we all left feeling quite disappointed. We had afternoon tea, which, when arrived was very tasty. The service, however, was unacceptable. We wanted a drink whilst waiting and weren't even asked for a drinks order for about 20 after we sat down. We waited a further 40 mins or so for the afternoon tea to come out, and at no point before this were we asked if we wanted tea or coffee with our food.... which surely is one of the main parts of an afternoon tea! When the food arrived, we asked about drinks and the server said we should have been asked about these already! We ordered 3 teas and 10 mins later, they had still not arrived so we had to chase this again. By the time they arrived, we had almost finished eating. None of us were given any jam for the scones and only realised when we saw others with it, which was too late as some of us had already eaten the scones. We mentioned this to a server who said "all the ones I served had jam. Did I serve you?", to which we said no. He repeated "oh, well all the ones I served had jam. You should have asked me". Totally not the point and I really did not appreciate this response! Overall, very very slow service and servers seem unbothered and nonchalant about attention to detail/providing a good experience for customers! Not sure I'll be going back!
Food was ok, service was good.
