Room in a disgusting state, cushions with stains, shower not working, no hot water, shower in a dangerous state. Filthy room dusty, huge cobwebs, window rattled. Worn torn carpets on staircase. We booked to stay after a wedding nearby, but at 1am we decided we couldn't sleep in a room this bad and drove home. I wouldn't recommend anyone staying.
We stayed 1 night for family wedding that was happening nearby. Paul was fantastic in the lead up to our stay but surpassed our expectations when we were there. We arrived a lot earlier than check in but we're able to gain access to our rooms to get changed into our wedding outfits and leave our bags. I had prebooked a local taxi to take us to the wedding venue which never showed up and no calls were answered. I asked for Paul's advice for another taxi company and he drove us there himself and wouldn't accept any payment. On the way he called another taxi company to check their availability so we could get back to the Coach House at night. Honestly, this was the best Customer Service we have had for a long time and we are very appreciative. Breakfast and the 2 other members of staff were also fantastic. Thank you very much
I need to start of by saying the young man at reception who also ran the bar & cooked breakfast was exceptional. Really polite and very welcoming. We booked in as we were attending a wedding 3 miles away. Now for the negative with the Coach House. The room was tired carpet needs aqua vacuming. The curtain hanging of its rail. The bathroom was equally tired and in need of a full refurbishment. It was somewhat surreal to be told no one would be onsite during the night which my wife found quite concerning . The view from the room was onto what was once a very grand building called Otterburn Hall which sadly was in a shocking state of dereliction. Not really what you would expect. We unfortunately wouldn't revisit or recommend The Coach House and would caution anyone who might be considering making a booking. I'm somewhat disappointed at the initial reviews which gave The Coach House very good reviews. Buyer Beware.
Beautiful and quiet location, service and food was amazing. Only complaint, if you can call it a complaint is that it wasn't busy. Would absolutely stay here again!Rooms: 4/5
Just stayed at the Coach house for q mates wedding nearby and the experience was amazing, staff are super friendly and helpful. Didnt stay for breakfast although it looked pretty good. Overall a great stay and would definitely come back.Rooms: 5/5
We didn't stay here but the lodges with hot tubs look amazing. We had excellent food and our server was absolutely lovely. It is a shame the large house is derelict, it would be a marvellous location for weddings etc. Nearby activities: You need to drive or be a happy hiker but you are so close to Hadrian's wall, vindolanda and numerous other roman sites.
Dropped into the Coach House for one night on the way to the Scottish Borders and spent a very pleasant night there. We were delayed and late to arrive. The hotel called us to check our arrival time and to explain that the reception desk would close shortly. They were very friendly and attentive and were ready to plan access and check in for us if we arrived too late. Concerned and helpful. Just right. The room was clean and comfortable. Not plush and overly styled but honestly cosy and very relaxing helped by good lighting with dimmable main and bedside lamps. Breakfast was excellent. Help yourself Continental style cereal and pastries complement by a selection of cooked dishes to order. We had the full English breakfast that was top quality and bursting with flavour, not greasy at all. More importantly the coffee was good! All in all a good wee hotel and great base for exploring the local forest parks and nature reserves.
Visited with friends in January we made a reservation online for evening meal as advised on the board outside the restaurant, which was confirmed by email, however when we arrived we were advised that the restaurant is closed during January. We had to find another restaurant at short notice as we had a diabetic who had taken medication and needed to eat. Why did the website take our booking? Why did the website, the board outside the restaurant and other advertising boards in village not have any information regarding closed in Jan
I really don't want to be too down on this place because the staff were trying very hard but I can't give it more than 2 stars and am somewhat surprised at the overtly positive reviews below. We were in room 12 - possibly one of the worst hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. The bed was soft and you felt like you were lying on the base, carpet had stains on it, the window frame needed cleaning - our view on to a courtyard was an old pallet and a bag of rubbish. No toilet roll on the holder. No wifi in this room. None whatsoever and no signal on your phone. Not the biggest issue but could be resolved easily. Lobby door to our room was dirty. It was raining when we arrived and as the car park wasn't finished it became a bit of a mud bath. We were told to walk back outside to access our room, in the rain, despite being able to work to the room very easily via an indoor route. On the plus side the food was good in the evening although below average for breakfast. Ethan, one of the guys looking after us was the one real positive about our stay and I apologise to him for having to be honest about the other aspects of our stay above.
My stay there was very pleasant! the rooms were cleaned well and everything needed was provided. I thoroughly enjoyed their food! Amy, the lady who looked after me, was a very kind and very hard worker. I wish her the best!
