During the summer of 2010 we were made aware that the Castle was being sold. We recognised many years ago what a fabulous location Llandovery is, being surrounded amongst the rolling hills and spectacular landscapes of Carmarthenshire known as the ‘Garden of Wales’. This, coupled with a desire to get back to our ‘roots’ as a dining pub, considered the Castle well worth a look. After one viewing we just knew it was right for us. We fell for the Castles charm and presence the very first time we saw it.
Don’t tell our bank manager but all our purchases have been done by the initial ‘feel’ we have for a property – then we write a business plan !
For centuries the Castle has been at the heart of the town, a place for travellers and visitors to rest, replenish and recharge their batteries. Past famous guests include the Admiral of the fleet Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton as well as the latter day travel writer George Borrow.
We sincerely hope to restore the Castle into everything a traditional Welsh coaching inn should be. Celebrating its past with modern fresh ideas . A wonderful relaxing environment with rustic oak beams, reclaimed flooring and roaring log fires that welcome you in winter. A sun dappled courtyard hideaway for summer evenings.
