What a gorgeous place! The Canonbury Tavern, part of the Young's stable is a most happy and welcoming place. Fine open plan building with a restaurant area on one side, more pub and drinking on the other but eating, not at all out of place. Also a huge outside seating offering for when the rain is not pouring. Service is excellent and welcoming. Just a lovely place to visit for whatever you like.
A great pub, large and characterful, with a big garden at the rear. I particularly love the art in the wood panelled dining room. Decent selection of drinks, and good food. This would easily be our Sunday roast go to - portions are large with lots of different things on the plate. However, the chicken and pork are both slightly dry. Fix that, and it's perfect.
Splendiittle pub in the middle of nowhere but somewhere close to everything if you know the area! There's a terrific food selection, largers and ale to choose from and a selection of indoor and outdoor seating for those perfect summer drinks. The staff are wonderful and we've been going here for years even before I started dating Abigail. Please enjoy.
We had our wedding at The Canonbury and it was the perfect location for our special day. Service was fantastic, food was outstanding, drinks were topped up all afternoon and the staff could not have been more accommodating. Our guests especially loved the beautiful gardens. I would highly recommend for anyone to host a special event at this classic and stylish London pub.
I ordered the veggie burger and had no complaints. The fries were hot and crispy and the burger was well dressed and flavorful. You can order from the restaurant app or through the server. The decor is cozy and Christmassy at the moment. Not sure if there was a parents event there Sunday I visited, but if that’s the normal crowd there are A LOT of children. Would return!
Nice dog friendly pub, had a nice burger there ~£16. On the more expensive side Sunday roast was £20, but the food was very tasty and there was a decent selection of beers. Would visit again.
I booked The Canonbury for a roast dinner with my friends, and was really disappointed. I wouldn't recommend coming here for a roast dinner. Booking - I had booked a table and upon arrival I was told to either check the outdoor tables for my name or speak to a member of staff in the restaurant area. After searching all tables none of which had names on them I approached the restaurant to ask about my table booking. I was asked 'Where did you book? Which table?' which I replied to say 'I don't know, can you help me?'. I was told they needed to speak to another member of staff. Nobody then came to see us so we had to just take a random table. Food - It has a beautiful garden but as soon as our food arrived, the flies and wasps descended on our meals. Obviously this is out of the pubs control however, after finishing our food the waiters did not appear to collect our plates, meanwhile we had to sit with a swarm of flies and wasps surrounding our plates. It was so unpleasant for so long that we had to pick up our plates and take them inside. Upon bringing our plates in, the staff were on their phones and just looked at us, and said "Yeah the flies are bad". No acknowledgment that we were doing their job, and they didn't offer to collect our other plates just let us go back and bring back further plates. The food itself was very disappointing, it was VERY dry and tasted like it had been reheated. We left half of the food because it was so dry. After asking the staff if they had any horseradish sauce, we were just told, 'no'. Not, 'Sorry we have run out/ don't have that at the moment'. Drinks - service was very slow and we waited 20 + minutes for a drink after ordering on the ap. Broken glass outside - unfortunately another customer smashed a glass outside. Upon going inside to ask if it could be cleared, the staff responded to say 'I don't work outside'. Meanwhile there were toddlers and dogs roaming around. Also, slightly embarrassing that The Canonbury can't spell 'Welcome'.....
Don't come here if you're looking for food that arrives on time, or value for money. Attached is a photo of a starter worth eight english pounds lol. This dish arrived after our mains, which were themselves approximately 45 mins overdue. One of our fish and chips order was not even cooked all the way through. Our £20 cod dish was, erm, thin on any cod, or much else. We weren't alone. Many folks were looking around wondering where their food was. It was a busy Saturday night, who could have known it would be so busy? Nothing to say otherwise, the service staff were doing the best they could with a bad hand. Don't bother. It's not worth it. Save your money.
Not the warmest welcome from the lady behind the bar who served me, not friendly. Gladly the other staff were better. Good food, plenty of vegetarian options. Extensive wine list, quite expensive tho. Would definitely go again
Although we ate in a beautiful room, it was quite cold inside when we had our Christmas meal there. I enjoyed my meal but the portions especially the main, I had the fish were too small. Overall it was nice but too small and they need to sort out the heating.
