We were back in my hometown of Southam for the weekend and having heard good things about the newly revamped The Brook (formally The Market Tavern), we decided to pop in for breakfast. The Brook has already gained a reputation in the area for random opening times for breakfast, so my first suggestion would be to sort that out; it's quite bizarre! The decor of the pub is absolutely lovely, and the staff are excellent. The beer and wine selection is also very good, so I'm looking forward to returning for dinner one evening; I'm sure it will be great. The breakfast was nice, and very good value, although there was a rather long wait (about 30 minutes) despite the restaurant not being particularly busy. I was also very disappointed with the coffee - I feel the pub should invest in a proper coffee machine, or at least a professional filter pot, rather than serving up ground coffee in cafetieres.

went for lunch on a wed. great decor on arrival and pleasantly greated but empty, no music very bland atmosphere. staff were attentive and ordered a share nachos and main courses (hint, if you don't like burgers don't go). the nachos cost £8 and when they came they were lovely and delicate but only 14 nachos in all for 8 quid. wow. music eventually came on and clearly everyone has different tastes but was all hardcore Latino salsa. even the bar persons friend commented "when did this pub turn into nando's". mains took 40 mins to arrive, remember the pub was empty too, but was well presented. however they put brie on my burger but didn't melt it or heat it up before so within a minute my burger was cold. Same with my wife's too but she had halumi and mushroom. we were asked at the end and mentioned this but got a blank look from the staff. Wouldn't go back to eat as limited menu, cold food, takes an age to cook (longer than it should) and expensive.

Lovely decor and setting, but don't go if you are vegetarian. Was first given someone else's beef burger and then the 'spicy bean burger' was a pretty poor catering type vegetarian substitute burger with mozzarella in the middle (which we'd asked not to have with the burger, assuming it was something served separately). Staff very defensive and we were still charged for an £11 burger that our daughter didn't eat. Coffee also like water, but didn't want to cause any more fuss after complaint about the burger. This is a fairly new business but some major lessons to learn about good customer service - this is just so important and we would have still gone back if reaction had been different as the setting is lovely and rest of food pretty good.
