The Black Swan at Oldstead was created by The Banks family who have lived and farmed around Oldstead for centuries. The current generation are so rooted in the surroundings that The Black Swan could only be at Oldstead.

We went for the tasting menu there after hearing a lot about the restaurant and it did not disappoint. There were 13 brilliant courses and not one of them was bad. All very well presented and the taste was amazing. The staff were very helpful and described each course in detail which is helpful as some of them are quite unique. Although it's expensive it's worth it in my opinion due to the high quality, unique and numerous dishes you get to try.

Very disappointed by our visit. Staff were friendly, the room nice but nothing special for the price. Drinks are ridiculously priced. We were most disappointed by the taster menu. We were served the first course in the bar just after we'd ordered drinks so felt rushed, then moved to the restaurant upstairs. The beetroot course was amazing. The dessert was so bad it left the most revolting taste that ruined what we had eaten and the next course. Out of the 3 other tables having pudding at the same time ALL sent it back uneaten. I spoke to the waitress who said it's a love it or hate it dish, unfortunately everyone that night hated it. Then to add insult to injury after you have paid for the drink pairing you are asked to pay £5 for a tea or coffee. So about £600 for 1 night with dinner and drinks - no we didn't have the coffee!

My wife and I went for our belated anniversary dinner and found it delicious. They initially seat you at the bar for drinks and the first course. After about 20 minutes we were lead upstairs to our table and the other 11 amazing dishes. The wait staff was attentive and friendly and drinks great. Definitely leave enough time to get there as the last few roads are quite narrow.

Really disappointed with this place. My mum has been very poorly and had to cancel with notice. However after lots of calls and emails I asked for someone to call me back, James did. VERY RUDE. I have lost £900 and I asked them to give me a charge if I could move the booking to a later date as my mothers health is more important, but no. I love family run business's however this one is too much it's own back side. I have been to some top restaurants however never have I been treated like this.
