Went here whilst on a tour of Scotland simply to try their renown haggis nachos and boy oh boy we weren't disappointed, so very tasty and moreish, they do a standard and a large. we found the standard plenty to share, great little oldie worldly pub
Two of us visited for food midday midweek food a few months back. We got the ribs and they were fatty, grisly and bones were shattered so had to chew very carefully. We couldn't finish the meal and left shortly after which was disappointing.nWe then went to black sheep on a later date, we went and stood at end of the bar and waited for 10min. The barmaid did not acknowledge us once. Someone approached bar at opposite end after us waiting and was served immediately, then patrons already at bar were served and still we received no service.nWe left without service. We won't be coming back to The Royal. Terrible customer service and experience.
I'm guessing this must be a really awful place to work in... The staff were so miserable a smile, a hello, a thank you... Really doesn't cost anything... The place didn't even look that busy, I dread to think what it's like on a busy day!nMaking one latte seemed like a massive task for the bar staff. I even brought the empty saucer/cup back to the serving area, not a single thank you or smile... Cheer up! Is it really that bad to work here?!? Great shame as the seating and decor were really nice, just the service completely let the place down. 2* only becuase the seating area was nice, would've been 1* otherwise.
When the Royal Hotel did not have availability we were advised that the Royal hotel also served food in the pub. Food was delicious and I'd eat here again.nThe pub was busy, bar staff attentive and hard working but seating a little worn.
Great food and friendly service. Would definitely go back and dog friendly which was a major bonus.
