Story

The Black Horse at Ireland is a traditional, family-owned pub and restaurant set in a small hamlet in the heart of Bedfordshire. We have a reputation for providing outstanding food cooked by talented chefs, served in relaxed and friendly surroundings.

The exterior of the building retains its original charm, enhanced with stunning flower baskets and window boxes overflowing with colour, flag stone frontage and manicured greenery, whilst the interior has been beautifully up dated in a contemporary style using natural materials, including wooden and stone floors and a slate top bar. With the low ceiling bar, original beams and inglenook fireplaces it still retains its character.

The bar is comfortable and cosy, the perfect place to relax with friends or loved ones when enjoying a glass of wine from our extensive wine list, a pint from our selection of real ales on draught or even a warming cup of tea or coffee. Find out more here.

The restaurant consists of two distinct dining rooms, each offering their own unique style and atmosphere with either a garden or courtyard outlook. In summer months the garden and courtyard areas are opened up to offer alfresco dining while enjoying the occasional British sunshine!

The stars only because on the evening of our visit, for a quiet night out with friends, we were placed next to a birthday party of a dozen or so noisy revelers. This was booked well in advance so it wasn't as if we were fitted in at the last minute. Food was very nice. Staff very friendly and amenable. Will visit again but with the hindsight will make sure we don't end up in the noisy part of the restaurant. Probably would have given it five stars if we'd have been able to have a decent conversation without and struggling to hear and be heard.

Another amazing meal. We have been here quite a few times now but I have to say the Indian lamb loin from the specials board has most definitely been my favourite main. Absolutely amazing and I would highly recommend. The brioche bread and butter pudding with rum custard was also delicious. As usual can not fault the staff, atmosphete and food. Can't wait until the next time!

Still as good as it was when I last went 8 years ago! I definitely will not be waiting that long to go back again... There were so many good staff (including a car park attendant) that you couldn't help but get a good service and the food was excellent and plentiful. Really recommend this restaurant.

My wife and I visited for dinner on a Saturday and there was a lively buzz, even at 7pm. The menu wasn't as extensive as I'd hoped, but the quality was fantastic and the service was quick and polite. We had a lovely meal and would definitely visit again.

I last went to this 'gastro pub' over 10 years ago and even though it is over 45 minutes from home, I decided that it was time I went again. The table was booked easily on open table and then amended a few times as we added 2 people and changed the time. The staff were very friendly when we arrived and I ordered a pint of their stout (which was lovely). We were showed to our table and ordered after having given the right amount of time to look at the menu. My beef was lovely (see picture) as were the steak and fish and the white wine with the meal was also very good (I was not driving!). I had the rum baba for dessert and friends shared the cheese board, which they loved. Nice touch was extra crackers appearing when it was noticed by the waiter that we had run out. Not an expensive meal for the quality of food and happy to recommend to anyone
