Whilst some of the decor is pretty with nice paintings and bits, in other areas it looks very worn and tied, with peeling paint and stains. When I went it wasn't very busy yet there were loads of tables full of dirty plates and drinks, and quite a lot of food under tables. The stuff were really friendly and accommodating, more than happy to clean a table when asked, checked up a few times and really did seem to care. The good is at good value, I had the mushroom pie and chips, it tasted very good, I was surprised by the portion of the chips and peas expected a little more and the gravy had a slight skin on it, maybe evident that it had been sat under the lights for a bit.
Fantastic staff and service amazing food at a bargain price. We'll be coming here monthly 5 star service all round well done .
It was 68 miles from us. We had a family get together and it is the first time we have been there, but was well worth the visit. It was not to busy when we arrived at 12 midday, and unknown to us it had not been booked, but they were friendly and helpful and we were able to choose where we wanted to sit , which was in the large conservatory. Choice of food was very good, and the prices very reasonable, and I can not complain about the ale pie which i ordered. There were 6 of us with varied meals which we all enjoyed. There did not seem to be many staff, so you don’t have to be in a hurry which we were not, and we enjoyed the afternoon.
I went to the anchor with my friends and it was an amazing experience. I had been once before and they didn't disappoint. Their food is so affordable and really good quality. We did have a couple of mistakes on our order which is understandable as we were a big group but they were all rectified in a speedy and professional manner.
It seems that things have improved at The Anchor. The last time we went, we walked out again as out of 5 dinner choices selected, only one selection was available. The time before the food was not cooked or presented well. This time, was much better, the food looked and tasted good. I look forward to visiting again soon . The pub was very busy which is really nice to see and the staff are very friendly.
Always seems to be easy going and no long wait for service. Fish and chips is quite good as is the scampi. We visit about once a week and try to choose something different each time. So far so good. Toilets let them down though.
Very friendly helpful staff. Despite being very busy, there was ample parking. The service was quick by friendly staff and the food was well prepared. We would definitely visit again.
Very nice pub indeed. Both food and service is very good and reasonably priced. Situated in a nice area of Bedford and next door to a Travelodge and major route into the town
Went on a Saturday afternoon, firstly the pub had only about 5 people in it and none of those were eating. I ordered drinks and food for 2 people, firstly I had to ask the fella at the bar to top up the pint of Peroni as it was well short and filled with foam which he did rather sluggishly. The food arrived and the meatless burger was disgusting, it was over microwaved on full power, giving it the texture of a rice cake. It was probably then flash cooked in a fryer. My partner had a greasy macaroni cheese dish which, you could tell was old and flavourless. I asked for a refund for the burger and even though I got an apology I don’t understand why this food was like this. If it was busy then okay, but we were the only ones eating. I’ve been here before but will never go back, I’d rather go hungry. If you want to see staff who have given up and clearly don’t care then this is the place for you. I wouldn’t be surprised if this pub is scheduled for closure, it’s a rather old and soiled place and just depressing all round.
Pub was clean and tidy. We came in the wrong entrance for a table so walked over to where we could get a table. We were looked at by multiple member of staff. We stood at the 'please wait to be seated' table and sign for about 5-6minutes. Again we were looked at by staff but no one came over to us, someone was serving tables looked at us twice but then went into the kitchen after finishing and never came out again. We ended up walking out and going somewhere else. Slightly disappointed, hopefully this won't happen next time.
