Recently discovered and now a firm favourite - definitely the best Chinese restaurant in Exeter. Not too greasy and everything tasted fresh and authentic. The host was a lovely lady and we felt really well looked after. Will be going back very soon!

Very good food, decor average, staff needs more training, as they brought wrong dish and only 3 tables were busy at the time

The Oriental equivalent of Fawlty Towers, without the humour. Oh, and the food was awful. When looking for somewhere to lunch with my wife whilst on a shopping trip to the University city of Exeter, I should have stuck to my belief, picked up whilst serving in Hong Kong, that you can always tell if a Chinese restaurant is good if a smattering of Chinese nationals are eating in it. Regrets eh? The Tang Shian experience started badly, tailed off a little in the middle and the less said about the end the better. On entry to the empty restaurant, we were enthusiastically greeted by a young man hopping from foot to foot in anticipation. He really was a delight and he escorted us to what must have been the refrigerated area and seated us, without ceremony, at a window table-for-two and then scurried away for the stain laden menus. A small electric heater was placed near to our table, thank you Manuel, and the cold air from the defective little machine froze the pervading atmosphere further. Super! We ordered three simple dishes, a crispy duck portion, two chicken based meals and a bowl of egg fried rice. We then waited eagerly and the sounds of the several microwave ‘pings’ should have rung the alarm bells further. Our young hero of the story returned with the Crispy Duck and sort of, dumped everything in a pile on the table, smiled and disappeared in triumph. My wife sorted the the dishes and we tucked in. The duck was clearly the re heated (several times I suspect) but, barely warm version and all else was cold. That part finished with, the main course turned out to be a triumph of failure. The chicken in both meals was sickeningly slimy and undercooked although the sauces in which they were cooked were good (that’s where the awarded one point comes from). Those poor chickens died for nothing though I’m afraid. Finally, no we will not be returning to this restaurant, ever. And as for our charming and happy young waiter, you really should find a better place of employment.
